Ortiz: 'Baseball gods want to teach me'

Posted on: May 4, 2009 5:56 pm
NEW YORK -- In the midst of the longest home run drought of his Red Sox career, David Ortiz took to quoting Manny Ramirez.

"This isn't the end of the world, like Manny said," Ortiz said tonight at rainy Yankee Stadium.

Ortiz is hitting just .208, but the biggest news is that 25 games into the season, he has been to the plate 114 times and has yet to hit a home run. Before this year, Ortiz's longest home run drought with the Red Sox was 19 games.

"I've never been in this kind of funk," he said. "I'm going to take this as something the baseball gods want to teach me: 'It's not that easy, Big Boy.' "

Red Sox manager Terry Francona has so far elected not to give Ortiz a day off, but he met with his slugger today to offer support. According to Ortiz, the message was, "We're going to go down together if we go down."

Back in 2000, while playing for the Twins, Ortiz didn't homer in his first 31 games. That was before Ortiz became the power hitter he has developed into since coming to the Red Sox.

Ortiz said he appreciated the meeting with Francona.

"I don't see Terry as my coach anymore," Ortiz said. "I see him as my dad. When he talks, I'm all ears."

There is no way ortiz is on the juice....why don't you take his rookie picture and put it up with his picture now...yeah he has gained some weight but wow, you guys have some ignorance saying that he is on the juice.  The guy is getting old, his bat speed is down, and he is picking up more strike outs. Stuff happens, and the red sox are doing fine without him in the line up right now.  He will be back hitting the home runs for us again soon.

Wow...EXACTLY !!

Anyone who thinks Ortiz didn't juice is crazy....he just happened to eat Doritos and Oreos while doing it......

I know, I know....he said he didn't and never would....sound familiar??  He's from an area that it is easy to get, but he's stronger than that....

Whatever....after his big "I would never" claim...he needed to get his bat speed has warning track power to it....he's hitting with the luxury of fat only now....

He's having a Mo Vaughn decline....he may hit 20 this year, but his career as an all-star is over !!

I'm a Yanks fan.  Ortiz is a class guy.  I hope he comes back with a good year, but that the Yanks take out the Sox in the playoffs.  Looks like a Costanza right now, the opposite is happening...
