Could Yankees trade for Lowe?

Posted on: December 14, 2009 5:52 pm
Now that John Lackey is headed to the Red Sox, and now that Roy Halladay is headed to the Phillies, and now that Cliff Lee is headed to the Mariners, where does Derek Lowe go?

How about the Yankees?

The Yankees want a fourth starter to go with CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte, and they have hitters who could interest the Braves. The two teams have talked, and while it's not certain that a Lowe deal has been discussed, it would make sense.

Lowe also makes sense for the Angels, who have lost out on both Halladay and Lackey, their two top targets. Outfielder Juan Rivera would be "a nice start" to a package for Lowe, according to someone familiar with the two teams.

The Mariners have also shown interest in Lowe, but now that they are set to get Lee, they would seem to have less motivation to make a trade.

The Braves began the offseason exploring deals for either Lowe or Javier Vazquez, but sources said that they are now much more focused on dealing Lowe than Vazquez. Vazquez, in any case, would be a tough deal to make for the Angels, because of the pitcher's strong preference to stay on the East Coast.

The Braves are willing to pay some of Lowe's salary ($45 million over the next three years), depending on the players they get in the trade.

Could Yankees trade for Lowe?

Oh yet another jealous let me guess.....S.F. Giants fan? You obviously have no idea what your talking about. Yes the Yankees spend alot of money and yes they do go after big players. However they spend money every year and it was what? 9 years between WS Championships. Allow me to quote you....... "the yankees fake championship has nothing to do with talent or ability, and everything to do with money. The yankees are just the Royals with money, nothing to be impressed with.".......Let me see A-Rod, Jeter, Teixiera, Cano, Posada, Sabathia,Damon, Pettitte, RIVERA!!!! Your right no talent?!?! You kidding me? Most of which are sure thing Hall of Famers! Now they make a great move and add Curtis Granderson....No Talent? WOW! The Royals with Money ,that doesn't even make sense. Nothing to be impressed with.....27 championships enough said!! Oh and by the way every baseball franchise has the ability to spend money needed to sign these big players, but their owners prefer to pocket the money. The Yanks operate within the rules of MLB if you want to complain.... complain to your teams ownership. Take care buddy....

OK, did you seriously compare the Yanks to the Royals?  Name a team loaded with "homegrown" talent, The Yanks have Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Hughes, Pettite, Joba, Rivera, Cano, Cabrera...Also, the Yanks make deals using their younger talent.  LIke Using Austin Jackson and Phil Coke to get Curtis Granderson.  Show me a major league roster with more homegrown talent.
Boston-Ellsbury, Pedroia, Lester, Papelbon, Varitek....Nope, next
Cardinals-Pujols, Wainwright, Ankeil, Y.MOlina...Wrong
Angels-Morales, KEndrick, Weaver, Saunders, Santana, Mathis...CLose, but no
Dodgers-Billigsley, Broxton, Kershaw, Martin, EIther, Kemp, Loney...the closest thing out there

So are all those playoff teams bolstered by spending money all "fake" Contenders then?

Could Yankees trade for Lowe?

hey shouldnt you be booing A-Rod or something. oh no wait now The Yankees won so hes the greatest player ever again.  lol your above post was such a run of the mill Yankees fan thing to say.  I guess you dont remember going to Yankee games in the early and mid '90s when half the stands were empty.  I do.  but then again, it just shows the bubble that people from New York, especially Yankees fans, live in.

Why would do they do that? Bronson Arroyo has similar stats and would cost the Yankees less in terms of salary, prospects and players. Besides, Derek Lowe is a headcase.

now lets add up the stats of the guys like tex, a rod and damon and match them up against guys like  Gardner and Hairston Jr.  lol come one man.  and how many other teams can go out in ONE offseason and sign the top three free agents (Tex, CC and Burnett).  and also, sure Pettite was homegrown...The FIRST time he was on the Yankees, but then he left and came back AS A FREE AGENT.  The Yankees of the 1990's wasnt a bought team and their world series were very respectable (although I would have liked to see things go the other way in '96 and '99).  No one could have matched what the yankees did last season.  Just think of this, if the Angels could have paid Tex to stay there, maybe their season and the series the Yankees played them in would have been diferent.  there is no team that CAN spend what the Yankees can.  If they could they would, because while people like to think thats owners of small market teams "pocket" most of the money, wouldnt they make alot more if they invested that money and made it respectable?  of corse, but they just dont have the revenue and market that the New York Yankees do.  Where do you think has more money, New York City or Kansas City Missouri?  very simple.  Perhaps thats why the two of the top payrolls are both in NY (and you could fit about 5 small market teams in between the Yankees and the second place team).

Could Yankees trade for Lowe?

The problem is, we (the Braves) don't have any third base prospects.

I love the idea of Lowe for Juan Rivera, too. I don't see Damon in a Brave's uniform and the thought of getting Swisher seems a little scary. The guy strikes out too much.

Oh and Bobby, lets dump Greg Norton! Please!

Lowe to the Stankees, fine.
Love to see Johnny Damon on the Braves.

Juan Rivera from the Angels?
Love that one too.

The Garrett Anderson experiment didn't go that ell.
A veteran bat with pop would be great in the line up or on the bench.

Go Braves 2010!!

Could Yankees trade for Lowe?

The Yankees don't need Lowe. If you want a fifth starter (fourth going to Phil Hughes, put Joba in the bullpen), sign Jason Marquis to a one-year deal. Sign former Brave Mike Gonzales to give the bullpen another left-handed arm. Make sure the Yankees sign the left-handed Cuban Chapman. Former Oakland player Jack Cust seems to be a perfect fit as DH/reserve outfielder (at least that's what the MLB network says).

Follow these rules and championship 28 will take place in 2010.Cool
