It's almost as if the Mets don't want to be overshadowed by the Dodgers in ownership nuttiness.

Or maybe it's that they can't go more than a few days without an "only the Mets" moment.

Friday, the New York Post reported that a guy named Steve Cohen is the front-runner to buy a minority stake in the Mets.

Also Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported on its front page that a guy named Steve Cohen is the subject of a government investigation, because trades made in one of his accounts were suggested by two former employees who pled guilty to insider trading.

Yep, same Steve Cohen.

You really can't make this stuff up, can you?

So the Wilpons, who are in financial trouble because of their involvement with Bernard Madoff, are now going to sell a stake in their business to a guy under investigation for shady financial dealings?

At least Cohen, who runs the SAC Capital hedge fund, seems to have real money. Forbes estimates his net worth at $8 billion, and the Journal said makes $1 billion a year.

To be fair, the Mets insisted to the Post that there is no front-runner.

Then again, these are the Mets.

"Cheap shots" is very subjective, he's just reporting the facts, if the mets want to avoid publicity liek this perhaps they would vet any potential owner before accepting any kind of bid.
If someone seems like they're going to bring any negative publicity you just need to politely tell them "Thanks but no thanks" otherwise you have to take what comes to you.
remember if you sleep with dogs you may end up with fleas!

Wow now I know what Dobby from the Harry Potter movies is doing.  He is writing uninformative, crude humor filled blogs for cbs sportsline.  Man I thought with basketball season almost over we would get less Berger Blogs.  But low and behold baseball has Berger version 2.0 aka Knobler.

Maybe you should worry about growing some hair instead of lashing out at the New York Metropolitans.
Good one. We know he needs to grow something a little lower as well. Taking cheap shots @ any team is very unprofessional from someone who supposedly is covering MLB. He has no class and doesn't belong on the same site with a total professional like Scott Miller. Miller has a sense of humor, but never hits below the belt. This guy lives there.

Knobler is the Ken Berger of baseball. He's a one-trick pony with no credibility or respect.

Stop. You are an utter joke. You cannot write. You cannot report facts without making an utterly moronic statement.  You are the Berger of baseball and that's no compliment.

The process isn't done. This may in fact, prevent him because MLB has to approve any purchase. Too bad CBS doesn't have anyone with any judgment overseeing the ppl who write for this site.

Real money, $8B net worth.  But, how real is the money if it is a result of insider trading?
