Blog Entry

My Maiden Voyage into Bloggerdom

Posted on: May 31, 2008 2:30 am

This first entry is just to introduce myself and to put the word out that there is now another source to get your baseball fix.  I just woke up not long ago and I have to head to work in a short while so I don't have any topics to write about in my first blog entry.  I just wanted to invite you all in to say hi.

So I say hi, my name is Mike Oxlong....actually I'm Chinese and my name is Wun Hung Lo.   Did I say that humor is allowed on my forum?  Well, I certainly want to have a forum here that can be an outlet for you to laugh your guts out on some days.  Other days, I may wanna do a trivia forum.  Other days, I may want to put you all to sleep while I rant about the Royals.  In all honesty, my real first name is Steve and I live in a suburb of Kansas City just on the Kansas side.   I don't care if you call me kid, kiddude, or Steve.   Ladies in the know can call me York Oxlong if they wish.

Although my title is Da Dude's Daily Diamond Dialogue, I am a working man and it will be impossible to post a fresh title every day, but I'll freshen up the material as often as possible.  During the off season, I may make some entries concerning the NFL, NCAA football and basketball, but this blog will be baseball dominated for the most part.

Again, welcome aboard and I'll hit you with some baseball stuff real soon.

Thanks for the comments and kind words everyone.

Wow, the monkey is finally off our back Royals fans.  It wasn't pretty, but it was efficient.  Finally we got some timely hitting and some situational hitting as well.  Only 2 LOB.  I know I sure got to feeling uneasy when Gathright lost the ball in the lights that allowed the pop up to drop for a hit in the eighth.  As shaky as Soria was looking I couldn't help but wonder if we were going to relive Wednesday's game against the Twins.  I disagreed will Hillman's decision to put Soria in to start the 8th.  Except for the Wednesday fiasco, Ramirez has done a good job this year and I would have liked to see Trey put him in there to show him he still had confidence in him.    Anyway, nice game for DeJesus and a nice servicable start out of Davies.

Its funny this game of baseball.  During this losing streak the Royals made a handful of middle of the pack starting pitchers look like Cy Young and we finally end the streak against the reigning Cy Young award winner.   Go figure.

Praise Jesus - the curse is over!!!

Royals Win - Royals Win - Royals Win!

Now I have a question.  How many managers these days bring in their closer in the 8th inning?  The only one I can think of that has been known to do that is LaRussa.  I know Nunez is on the DL, but man, what a gamble.  Soria was shaky in the 8th, but got it done in the 9th.  Anyone else look at the pitch count tonight?  Sabathia throws 103 pitches in 8 innings.  The Royals used 4 pitchers and threw 175 in 9.  Ummm, that is a stat that makes me understand why the Royals are having so many problems offensively.

Kudos to Davies and DeJesus - excellent job!  I'm still trying to figure out Hillman.  Has he lost confidence in Ramirez and Gobble?  With Nunez out, use Mahay as the setup guy, don't bring him on in the 6th inning!  If Soria keeps pitching 2 innings per save, his arm might fall off.  And then again, hmmmm, could it be he's training for a starting pitching job?

Kiddude!  Nice Maiden Blog, I'll be checking in to see all the insightful and funny stuff you are going to post on here.  So far Royals and Tribe 1-1 in the 5th.  Check that, 2-1 Royals.  Ok, so how fast to we give the lead back?  :)  Go Royals!  BTW - I've got a story I'll share later about the Yankees.....Dejesus just doubled and it's 3-1 Royals! Ok, so i'm a little ADHD HA!  Can you tell I'm a teacher?

Yep KidDude - the only thing that would be worse is if Gordon is wearing a Yankees cap.  :)

I think your prediction for the game is dead on - no way we can beat Sabathia, even with 9 right handed batters,  I'd like for Davies to pitch 6 and give up 3 or less runs - good confidence booster for him, and I still see him as a more viable 5th starter than Tomko.

Here's hoping we take more than 1 walk, don't commit any baserunning blunders, and maybe Guillen or Oliva jacks one out.  I can see 3 runs, but no more.  Oh yes, a successful sacrifice bunt would be nice as well.
