The Greatest College Team Needs Cornerbacks!

This was a position that it was hard to narrow to a Top 20 w/ 10 HM's.

#1 - Deion Sanders (Florida State) Thorpe Winner. Prime Time was the epitome of a shutdown corner in college. Is the greatest athlete in FSU history, according to  Bowden who also called him the biggest star he's ever coached.
#2 - Tommy Casanova (LSU) HOF. Two-time 1st team All-America. Named the greatest DB in SEC history!
#3 - Terry Kinard (Clemson) Two-time 1st Team All-America. Captained 1981 National Championship team. Dominated every WR he played his last two years for the Tigers.
#4 - Mike Haynes (Arizona State) Two-time AA. Smooth operator who made everything look so easy. Never put up gaudy statistics at ASU because opponents rarely threw his way.
#5 - Todd Lyght (Notre Dame) Two-time 1st team All-America. Greatest DB in storied history of Irish football.
#6 - Charles Woodson (Michigan) Only defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy. Was a great player but also benefited from being in the right place at the right time.
#7 - Terrell Buckley (Florida State) Thorpe Winner. Disappointed in the NFL but was awesome at FSU. All-time Seminole Int leader was always making big plays for Bowden.
#8 - Antonio Langham (Alabama) Thorpe Winner. Was amazing for the 1992 National Champions. The greatest corner in Alabama history.
#9 - Rod Woodson (Purdue) Great athlete in football and track, starred for mediocre Boilermaker teams. Very physical with blazing speed.
#10 -Pat Thomas (Texas A&M) Two-time 1st team All-America. Followed up a legendary HS career in Texas with a storied career in College Station, and then made several Pro Bowls with LA Rams.
#11 - Champ Bailey (Georgia) Second only to Casanova as the greatest corner in SEC history.
#12 - Terrance Newman (Kansas State) Thorpe Winner. Brilliant tactician was always in position to make the play.
#13 - Dre Bly (North Carolina) Made 1st team All-America as Freshman and Sophomore, teams simply quit throwing his way his Jr and Sr seasons.
#14 - Aaron Ross (Texas) Thorpe Winner. Followed Mike Huff to give Longhorns back-to-back award winners. Very physical.
#15 - Carlos Rogers (Auburn) Thorpe Winner. Probably the greatest DB in Auburn football history.
#16 - Antoine Winfield (Ohio State) Thorpe Winner. I can't recall ever seeing him out of position, was never fooled.
#17 - Deon Figures (Colorado) Thorpe Winner. Undersized, but always up to the task. Had incredible acceleration and burst.
#18 - Darryll Lewis (Arizona) Thorpe Winner. Shutdown corner for Dick Tomey's "Desert Swarm" defenses.
#19 - Jamar Fletcher (Wisconsin) Thorpe Winner. Small but extremely physical. Took on receivers 6 inches taller and 35 pounds heavier and almost always won the battle.
#20 - Bobby Majors (Tennessee) Last of the legendary Majors brothers to star in Knoxville. Bobby was a shining star in his own right.

Alphabetical HM:
LeRoy Butler (Florida State), Dale Carter (Tennessee), Antoine Cason (Arizona), Aaron Glenn (Texas A&M), Jerry Gray (Texas), Gary Green (Baylor), Malcom Jenkins (Ohio State), Chris McAlister (Arizona), Corey Sawyer (Florida State), Shawn Springs (Ohio State), Marcus Trufant (Washington State), Fred Weary (Florida)

The Greatest College Team Needs Cornerbacks!

I should have seen Tommy Casanova - especially since LL had him as one his 3 corners. Doh! There was another player I left off that should have been in there... Eric Turner of the UCLA Bruins.  He was a pretty good cover corner who hit hard and didn't shy away from the open field tackle. He should have been in my initial HM list. Rashean Mathis played his college ball at Bethune-Cookman and should have been in this list as well. He had 14 picks in 2002. I also liked watching undersized corner Jason David of WSU go up against some pretty good Receivers in the PAC10 although to be brutally honest with everyone, he does not belong in this list or in the conversation.

Thanks for taking up the challenge Gator...Well Done.
