The Greatest College Team Needs A Stadium!

Tiger stadium is ok, but what about a game at the Swamp? The heat, the noise, they colors, the intimacy?

The real and only answer is The Swamp.

The Greatest College Team Needs A Stadium!

There is no place better then the SEA of RED during a day or night game in Lincoln, Nebraska.  That Sea of RED has been there for 293 home games.  Sold out every home game since Novmber of 1962.

The Greatest College Team Needs A Stadium!

It's great to see so many Cornhuskers voting in this segment. We always like a big vote. I do wonder where many of you were when we voted on the other "positions."

Nebraska fans, you've got a great stadium. I've enjoyed my two visits to Lincoln. I appreciate the homer vote. It's perfectly acceptable (even natural) to back your Uni and its facilities.

However, many of the points you've sited for Memorial Stadium have nothing to do with the facility. Most of them have more to do with your football program.

Point 1 - Sellouts:  Great stat and one to be very proud of. It illustrates a very loyal fan-base. To be truthful, there isn't much else to do in the area on a Saturday. Like it or not, that's a big factor. For example, in the LA area, USC has to compete for the recreation dollar with the Dodgers, Angels, UCLA and the Raiders and Rams (when they were in town). And that's just the athletic events. The arts, the shopping, the beach, local skiing, etc. also draw very well.

Point 2 - "Sea of Red":  Nebraska has Big Red stores and everyone has some red to wear. Great! But there's really nothing unique about it. Many other schools do the same thing. At Beaver Stadium (Penn St.), they do a "White Out" and it looks awesome. Texas A&M does a "Maroon Out" for every game. And so on, and so on.

Point 3 - "In Stands Way Before Kickoff":  This is weak one. So many schools do this. There's nothing unique to Nebraska on this one. Again, at A&M, they have a Corp march, a band review, etc. starting hours before kickoff. They even have yell practice in the stadium the evening before the game. Many schools tailgate starting the previous evening. Tailgaiting is an art at "The Grove", etc.

Point 4 - "Show-up, good and bad times":  Again this is a weak argument. Plenty of other schools fill their stadiums constantly. This is really your "sellout" argument re-phrased. BTW, "sellout" doesn't always mean that all the fannies are in the seats. On one of my visits to Nebraska there were obvious gaps in the stands that were never occupied. NOBODY in those seats. That's OK, it happens everywhere.

Point 5 - "Winning Tradition, NC trophies, bowl trophies, Heismans":  Yes, Nebraska has a few of each. I'd contend that the trophies and NC's have nothing to do with the stadium. If they did, then the LA Coliseum would whip Memorial. USC has more of each by a wide margin. However, Lincoln is a better venue for watching football than USC's home. Oklahoma, Michigan and Notre Dame could make the same argument.

I can appreciate the Nebraska fan's faithfulness. Nobody questions their commitment to their school. However, you might enjoy going to some road games and seeing some of the special traditions other Uni's celebrate. It's a lot of fun.

Just My Humble Opinion (JMHO)

"usually stupid MAINLY crazy", you are a worn out act. The sheer numbers are too vast for your limited intelligence to assimilate and accept. Your takes have no validity. Just like the morons who posted "Pete Carroll" for all time greatest coach. They actually believe the manure they are shoveling, just like you.

scorpionbite - I like much of what you contribute. I could care less about your battle with USMC_Gator. However, I'm one of the "morons" you're talking about. That's OK, I've been called worse I guess.

I gave my reasoning for my pick. You can go back and read it if you'd like. My reasoning was different. You may still disagree. That's OK. But the overly-personal generalized attacks don't become you or any other poster.

Also, as you may have learned, attacking the military is a losing proposition. It just shouldn't be done, IMHO.

My very "free" advice, IMHO, try not to attack too many of us at once. Some of us may have some "intelligence" and really know something about the subject matter.

I will have to make a motion to remove all votes for South Bend. You don't want the greatest stadium to have over half the fans wearing the visiting team colors because your cheap ass fans sold their tickets like when NU invaded South Bend.

The Greatest College Team Needs A Stadium!

I have been to the stadiums at ISU and Iowa and Memorial Stadium is the best place to see a game. You really can feel the tradition when you walk in to the stands and all you see is that SEA OF RED and the fans are in the stands way before the kick off ready to cheer the Huskers on when they hit the field unlike when you go to a game at ISU when fans are still coming in during the 1st quarter. ( Iam not bad mouthing ISU fans just stating what I have seen.)  Even during the bad times Husker fans will show up every home game and show their support. Can any other teams say that ?  I also like that you can go in and see the 5 count them 5 National Championship Trophies, all the bowl trophies that the Huskers have win over the years. If you have never been to a game at Memorial Stadium you need to experiance it at least once then you will see why Husker fans say it is the best damn place to go to a game.
