Mark McGwire May Be Open To Idea Of Playing Again

Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch interviewed Mark McGwire about the 10th anniversary of breaking Roger Maris' single-season home run record. At the end of the article McGwire indicates that he thinks he can still play.

Today, McGwire says, he works out twice a day and still weighs 245 pounds. "I can still hit, if somebody wants me," he said. "Now, wouldn 19t that be a shocker?"

Let me say that McGwire may have been joking. However, Hummel gives us no indication that this is the case.

Earlier today, Joe Stiglich reported that the A's would seek to add power to the lineup this off-season and that they would be more likely to acquire a power-hitter through free agency. Would Billy Beane try to coax McGwire out of retirement? McGwire did play 11 seasons for the A's and they do have an opening for a DH in '09 along with a dire need to add an impact bat.

The possibility does seem far-fetched, but this is the type of move that Beane would not shy from. And if McGwire did decide to lace up the sneakers for one more season, this is the exact situation under which it would have to happen.

I hope he does try to play again. Then, when no team picks up the phone, the Bonds-collusion-race-care arguments will go out the window.

Mark McGwire May Be Open To Idea Of Playing Again

The simple fact that McGwire would have fans tearing him to shreds in every ballpark he goes to would prevent him from making any sort of comeback. And if he ever tried to play the field he'd have all sorts of trash raining down on him from the stands. There's no chance of him ever returning to MLB.

Where did this one come from? Left field from a ball park in China? The only league he should come back to is the all steroid league. Heck, I bet they can get more than just a couple of teams.I guess he might be accepted in St. Louis, the baseball city that it is, alas I don't think he would get so much as a luke warm welcome anyone else.

Him and Jose are going to play for the Sioux City Explorers.  To make it more interesting, they are going to foil up like on slapshot then check the first baseman into the boards everytime they get a single.

And Mo Vaughn

And Mo Vaughn is going to sign with the Blue Jays to play Short next season. Aaron Hill can play the 2 bag from the hospital gurney.

Mark McGwire will never play again

Barry Bonds cant a job but Mark McGwire might?

The chances of McGwire returning to MLB are 0%.

No team would take the PR hit to sign him.

Not to mention, he hit .187 in his final season.

Not .287, .187, numbers that make look Juan Uribe good.

He last played in 2001, that would be 7 full seasons out of the league.

Who thinks that a .187 hitter who sat out 7 seasons , would be able to come back at the age of 45?  Id rather give Rod Carew a shot.

There is no chance of McGwire playing in 2009.

Maybe he has found some new steroids that are undetectable?
