Red Sox-Teixeira Rumor

2:34pm: A reader who heard the show says Patrick was only speaking in the hypothetical with the $200MM figure, so Bloom's post was apparently inaccurate.  This is why I typically avoid radio reports unless I hear them myself...sorry about that.  In listening to the Reggie Miller interview on Patrick's site he was definitely only giving an opinion during that portion.

2:16pm: Take it with a grain of salt, but we have a report of a report that the Red Sox offered Mark Teixeira an eight-year, $200MM deal.  Earl Bloom of the Orange County Register heard Dan Patrick say it on his radio show.  It'd be best to treat the report with skepticism until it's confirmed by another source.

Red Sox-Teixeira Rumor

I agree that the money is staggering, but it's what the market is bearing out.  Teixeria is not A-Rod, but he is a guy who will be a pernenial all-star, hit 300-35-120-100 in the middle of the line-up, as well as being a switch hitter.  There are no big bats coming in free agency in the next few years, other than Matt Holiday and there is no room for him.   If the Yankees wind up with Sabathia, Burnett, Tex and say Derek Lowe, the Sox division title hopes take a huge hit.

Red Sox-Teixeira Rumor

Even as a die-hard Sox fan I'm gonna have a tough time digesting 200mil for Tex...This guy is not Arod, and honestly is drawing this kind of attention b/c he is the only substantial position player available in free agency. I hope the Sox just sit pat. Try to ink Tek and see how the injury progesses with Lowell and continue to give younger players a la Lowrie opportunities if and when necessary. The farm system has started to develop some real talent the last couple of years and I see that trend continuing. Even with C.C. and A.J. the Yanks are still the 3rd best team in the AL East.

Red Sox Made $200 Million Offer To Teixeira?

The dollar value and years do not shock me in the least.  What would shock me is if the Red Sox included an out clause or no-trade clause.
