Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News talked to one baseball official (presumably not with the Yankees) who believes the Yankees are "going hard" after Manny Ramirez.  That official sees the Yanks willing to offer three years, while other execs see them stopping at two years, $50MM.  Another source told Feinsand that Brian Cashman isn't keen on Manny but Hank and Hal Steinbrenner are.  Feinsand wonders whether the team's interest in Ramirez is one reason they've put the Mike Cameron trade on hold.

You'll find a differing point of view from Joel Sherman and Ken Davidoff, who do not see the Yankees signing Manny.  By the way, Jon Heyman talked to a friend of Manny's who dismissed the idea of retirement.

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

I'm a yankees fan living in central Mass and I watched Manny everyday.  Great run producer, but a real cancer for the team.  He is the type of player that can quit on a team without remorse.  Screw him....  Let the West Coast have him.  Pool the rest of our resources and go after Tex.  Make the Sox spend over 25mill per year to get him.

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

Here go the Yankees once again thinking they can buy a championship.  Not this time.  So all you Yankee fans who are salavating at the chance to see Manny in Pinstripes close your mouths, and come back to reality.  Manny Loves LA, and LA Loves Manny.  Manny isn't going anywhere but back with the Dodgers.

Hey but if you want to see manny play in the New Yankee Staduim, then your just gonna have to win the AL pennant and then you'll get to see the Dodgers and Manny for at least a couple of games next October.

DODGERS IN 09

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

I liked Manny 4-5 years ago. I don't think he is the answer to what the Yanks are looking for. Yes, he is arguably the best right-handed hitter of his time, but his time is running out. He will be, at the end of the new contract, 39-40 years old. Bat speed slows down for everyone, eventually. How about maybe signing Adam Dunn(insert joke here). He is younger , can play 1B moving Swisher to RF. His average is terrible But his OBP is always @ .400 or higher. He hits for power, drives in runs and scores runs. What else is there? I can live with a sub .250 average if he walks 100 times hits 40+ homers and drives in 90-100 rbi. yes he will K 100's as well. ` Plus he will come cheaper than Manny and be around longer.

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

OK, any poster that talks about the percentage of income that the yankees spend on payroll--stop parroting the steinbrenners.  Unless you can tell us the EXACT income and outlay for each team, don't talk about "percentage of income spent" and so on.  How do you know the yankees aren't bringing in $1 billion and spending $300 million while the Pirates or whoever aren't making $60 million and spending $60 million?  Unless baseball opens its books, the stupid "they care more and spend more of their income" argument is worthless.

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

How many triples will be hit against the Yankees this year??  Manny or Matsui in left, Damon in center, Nady in right.  Nady is the best fielder in the bunch...and thats scary.

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

I think Manny is a selfish and lazy ballplayer. He always seems to put himself above the team and can be quite a disturbance in the clubhouse. He tends to act like a clown and shows a lack of both interest and hussle at times. His fielding is mediocre at best. That being said, I would still like to see him join the Yankees because he hits like a monster! If he does end up in pinstripes, I think he will have a change in attitde that could help bring the Yanks their first World Series win since 2000.
