Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News talked to one baseball official (presumably not with the Yankees) who believes the Yankees are "going hard" after Manny Ramirez.  That official sees the Yanks willing to offer three years, while other execs see them stopping at two years, $50MM.  Another source told Feinsand that Brian Cashman isn't keen on Manny but Hank and Hal Steinbrenner are.  Feinsand wonders whether the team's interest in Ramirez is one reason they've put the Mike Cameron trade on hold.

You'll find a differing point of view from Joel Sherman and Ken Davidoff, who do not see the Yankees signing Manny.  By the way, Jon Heyman talked to a friend of Manny's who dismissed the idea of retirement.

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

the  2009 yankees batting order you must fear this year will be     &nb
sp;     &n
bsp;     &
nbsp;   1-canoe    2-  jeter   3-  abreau   4-  a  rod     5- remierez    &nb

Pretty good line-up considering FOUR of the players in it are not under contract to the Yankees. Talk about counting your chickens before they're hatched.

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

How is this fare that the yankees get to pay whatever they want to whoever they want. I do not blame the players for signing with them because they are good and will pay a lot of money. I also do not blame the Yankees because if they have the money then they should be able to use it however they want, but I do not think they should have the money. What I think the MLB needs to have a salary cap like basketball and football. The Yankees can do whatever they want with that kind of money and they are probably going to get Manny for at least 2 or 3 years for 50 million, they already got Sabathia for 7 years 161 million i think, and Burnett for 5 years 82 million who are they going to get next. Also, if they do not get Manny they will get Texiara or another top hitter. I agree it would be nice to see Manny show the Red Sox up for messing with him I think all teams should get an equal amount of money. For example, the Nationals are trying to pay Texiara 8 years 160 million that is probably more than the Nationals have paid their whole team the last 3 years. Go Angels were going all the way this year!

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

They did re-sign AROD but he makes the money back by puttting people in the seats.

So let me get this straight. The important thing to Yankees fans now is putting people in the seats? I hope that's not what's important to Cashman. Here in Boston the important thing is winning. Seems to me Yankee Stadium was always sold out when the Yankees had a great TEAM in the 90s not a bunch of great INDIVIDUALS like they have had the past few years. Let me know when A-Rod LEADS you to a championship. Then maybe he will have earned his money.

the Yankees have never set the bar when it came to salaries until Sabathia.

The Yankees have set the bar at closer with Rivera, at catcher with Posada, at shortstop with Jeter, 3rd base with A-Rod, and at first base when they signed Giambi. They also set a precedent when they signed Clemens to a pro-rated $28M contract for 1/2 year. Now Sabathia. How many more bars do you want to set? Is this your first year as a Yankee fan? Have you heard of these players?

If the Yanks signed Manny, he would do the same thing, remember he grew up across the bridge from Yankee stadium in Washington Heights.

So if you are raised in New York you put people in the seats? There are probably 14 million people who can make that claim who would sign for a lot less money than Manny, AND SHOW UP FOR WORK EVERY DAY. How many people from Washington Heights can afford a ticket in the New Yankee Stadium? Yup, they'll be knockin' down the door.

Boston treats their players like crap, ie Garciaparra, Clemens (before the roid scandel) now latest victim was Manny

Good to see the facts never get in the way of a Yankee fan writing about things they know nothing about. Garciaparra wanted out and the trade won the 2004 World Series (remember the one that you watched after blowing a 3-0 lead). Clemens was fat and out of shape, left, 'roided up and then extended his career. If you want to see the facts look at his last 3 years with Sox and tell me you would have signed him.

How was Bernie Williams treated by the Yanks at the end? Oh yah, lets not talk about him. How about Tino Martinez when Giambi became available? Never mind. How about David Wells? David Cone? Alphonso Soriano? Do I have to keep going? Get your head out of the sand, grow up, and realize that your wonderful Yankee team treats players just like the Sox. If they are good they sign them, if something better comes along, the old guys are gone. You sign Manny, you going to play 11 guys in the field? Who leaves? Who will the Yankees "treat like garbage" to find a spot for him?

I am a Yanks hater but you got to love their high risk, high reward philosophy.  They've got to get Manny to give A-Rod off the back of the tabs.

Getting Burnett and Sabathia? I can live with that. Throw Manny in there? Then it's getting ridiculous. But if you can do it, you better do it...

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

Yankees fans make me absolutely sick. Your team goes out every off season to find that "perfect three hitter" or that "clutch reliever" while most teams like Pittsburgh and Tampa are looking to see what kind of talent can be brought out of their farm teams. Baseball free agency is out of control.
