Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News talked to one baseball official (presumably not with the Yankees) who believes the Yankees are "going hard" after Manny Ramirez.  That official sees the Yanks willing to offer three years, while other execs see them stopping at two years, $50MM.  Another source told Feinsand that Brian Cashman isn't keen on Manny but Hank and Hal Steinbrenner are.  Feinsand wonders whether the team's interest in Ramirez is one reason they've put the Mike Cameron trade on hold.

You'll find a differing point of view from Joel Sherman and Ken Davidoff, who do not see the Yankees signing Manny.  By the way, Jon Heyman talked to a friend of Manny's who dismissed the idea of retirement.

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

wow! baseball gets more publicity in the offseason! this is getting ridiculous now...the Yankees still won't be a terrific team, even with CC and/or Manny. Yanks fans face it, your guys are getting old! one guy can't make a team, neither can money! I learned that when I though CC was actually gonna stay with Cleveland! wow was I wrong!

jomac

im sorry you feel this way. We have a salary cap in the nba yet only 3 teams  'exist'. In baseball, despite payrolls, we have many teams with a chance to win it all. Tampa is a good example. In baseball, players who make megabucks just can't outperform 'poor' players. If you have incredible hunger which comes from being broke, you are going to be able to outplay someone making 100 million. Signing rich players is not all its cracked up to be.........with lots of money comes complacency. Its good to have great players but if those great players are making 100 million or more, they lose their 'desire' to compete for the dollar.

The game is great, dont worry about the 'tarnishment'. Stay a fan.

Hey, don't blame the game....the system was voted in by the players......so there is alot of blame to go around. If a fan leaves another will pay to replace that fan....so suck it up....eventually the game corrects itself.....so enjoy.!!!

You're an idiot. Last I checked the Marlins have won more recently than the Yankees, and the Rays were in the world series last year (let alone the Rockies the year before). The teams that spend the most don't necessarily win. Plus, the Yanks just had $80 million come off the books and haven't even come close to matching that in new salaries. Maybe you should read a few newspapers and/or websites before making inaccurate and naive statements.

I think it will be the Yankees and Blue jays who are 3rd and 4th again this year, not A Rod and Manny.

Burnett is a joke, he only played well because it was a contract year, I am glad my Jays don't have him anymore.  You watch and see, he won't have 15 wins this year.

I really hope Yankees do not get this guy, yeah he is a great player, but a disease to a team just like Terrel Owens.  He is a total goofball who can hit but can not field to save his life.  I can not count how many times i laughed at this guy in the outfield even though he killed us behind the plate.  Cashman your the man for seeing this guy as a joke and a disgrace to baseball.  Do not even think twice about getting him.  We need our teams chemistry back and he will not bring that..

Boston didn't treat Manny like garbage!  You are a typical Yankee fan that has no clue what goes on in the rest of baseball.  I would love to see Manny as a Yankee.  Then you will see what Manny is all about.  He's all about himself.  So, after the Yankee game that your watching is over, try and turn the channel and watch another baseball game.  Be a fan of baseball, not just a fan of the Yankees.

Yankees Going Hard After Manny?

Jomac is obviously a moron..... Do you have a job Jomac? Dont you want promotions?
This is my first post on cbs  because that was the dumbest statement I have ever heard and had to say something. It's obviously a bitter comment from a fan of a horrible team (like the Blue Jays) who is mad his team doesnt spend the money and go the extra mile to get players like other teams do. TORONTO is not a small market team, they can spend money if they wanted to. Unfortunately for you they choose not to and suck every year and dont  try to compete with the yanks and redsox, which is why when you finally offered burnett money he didnt want to stay there. Hed much rather play with a contender who is committed to winning for the same amount of money instead of rotting on a team who wont ever go anywhere- who wouldnt?
You need to be mad at teams like the Twins,Marlins, Royals, and your Bluejays instead. These are teams who trade their talent, spend nothing, and take advantage of the revenue sharing as well. These teams take money from people like steinbrennar, and arent even required to spend that money after they get it.
And until there is a salary cap in baseball, you should be more worried about your owner not wanting to compete instead of owners like Steinbrennar and Wilpon, who are committed to winning and using every penny they feel necessary to get there.
And for the record Im not a yankees fan.
