Peavy-Boston Possibility

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe discusses the possibility of Jake Peavy being traded to the Red Sox:

The Red Sox have "some" interest in Peavy, but as of a few days ago the teams had not entertained any substantive trade talks as Padres GM Kevin Towers knew that Boston was not on Peavy's wish list. But now that talks with Atlanta and the Cubs have broken down, Towers needs a new team to deal with and the 27-year-old Peavy, according to his agent, Barry Axelrod, probably would OK a deal to Boston. But if there's a Mark Teixeira splash, the Red Sox might not have the money to entertain it.

Padres CEO Sandy Alderson recently said the team is no longer actively pursuing a Peavy trade, but left the door open in case a team approaches them.  While the Red Sox easily have the young pitching to get it done, they'd also have the leverage to shoot for a bargain in a trade with San Diego.  Kevin Towers has historically been Theo Epstein's most frequent trade partner, but keep in mind that Peavy is in control.

Peavy-Boston Possibility

Tim Lincecum is such a thing, a cheap Cy Young winner and a better pitcher than Peavy and even more affordable.  Sabathia was cheap at the time he won as well, as was Bartolo Colon and Brandon Webb's contract is very friendly too.  Seems most 1-time winners are fairly cheap--what makes them not cheap is the desperation of big market teams poaching them (Yanks/Roger Celmens, Sox and Mets/Pedro, etc.).

Peavy-Boston Possibility

i've been beating this drum for about a week now. this trade would be so perfect. the sox have many ties with the padres, from part owner tom werner who was part of padres ownership previously, to theo epstein learning the ropes in the padres front office. the sox have the money, the prospects, and the need for another pitcher. peavy is a top shelf pitcher, this deal would trump the sabathia signing. the padres are motivated to make a deal. the hogwash about them keeping him....aint happening. that's just hot air..intended to give them leverage with the next suitor. they want payrolldown to 40 million. peavy cost over a quarter of that himself. makes no sense to spend that much for one player when you have no chance to compete this year. they will dump him, and the sox have some nice players they would love to have. i can't wait until this thing gets heated up. do it theo.

Peavy-Boston Possibility

I think Jake Peavy is a great option for any team in contention.  He's a Cy Young winner making reasonable money (if there is such a thing anymore).  If he's willing to go to Boston...Maybe he'd be willing to come to the Mets.
