Giants Aggressively Pursuing Manny?

10:28pm: Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle is skeptical about this rumor.  His bottom line: "At some point the Giants could consider Ramirez under very specific financial conditions. However, their concessionaires should not order a large stock of dreadlock wigs for the souvenir stands just yet."

Jon Heyman has a new blog post on the topic; he says the Giants "could become the biggest threat to the Dodgers' hopes to retain Manny."

11:33am: According to Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post:

The Giants, the NL West's most active team this winter, are quietly making an aggressive play for free agent Manny Ramirez, according to a major-league source.

The Giants have been linked to Manny for months now; they apparently spoke with Scott Boras about him in November.  It's interesting to see the Giants being aggressive while so many other teams are standing pat.  Would Manny put them over the top?  I imagine Brian Sabean would like to move Dave Roberts, Randy Winn, or Aaron Rowand to clear roster and payroll space.

I won't deny the Dodgers need an arm or two.  3rd place I doubt it...drastic moves....??  If the Dodgers sign Manny and don't get another pitcher they will still win the division.  The only pitcher we are losing is Lowe, big whoop.  Penny was gone half way through the season so we won't feel his loss.  As I told the other Giant fan blogger, for your sake I hope you do get Manny, be real, you know your offensive lineup is pathetic without him.  C'mon look at the stats the Giant pitching is not much better than the Dodgers, Oh you had a 18 game winner and we had a 16 game winner, sorry.

Let the cancer Manny go back to the AL East!  Nobody wants his poison in their lineup.  It would be better to lose a game, than to have Manny on your squad.  Hasta la vista, LOSER.

Easy now, I thought Dodger fans were the one's with the foul mouths.  I figured you would change the subject and talk about pitching because you know your offensive line up is so pathetic.  Anyways, yeah your pitching is good.....Matt Cain 8 wins 14 losses last year, Zito overpaid and 10 wins 17 losses, Sanchez 9 wins 12 losses, Lincecum he's got nasty stuff and then Oooohhhh my back hurts Randy Johnson. C'mon man be a realist the Giant pitching is not much better than the Dodgers.  For your sake I hope you do get Manny.  The Giants offense needs help.

The Dodger pitching staff is an absolute joke and they will finish no higher than 3rd in the division if they don't start making some dramatic moves.  The only reason the Dudgers even got to the playoffs was b/c of Manny and if the Giants can get him that will put a chokehold on the dodgers.  I think you Dodger fans have been sucking down too much smog.

Yeah signing Manny for the lesser amount of $ could very easily change the way he plays on and off the field.  He had a great affect on the young guys at the end of last year but very easily could turn into a bad apple.  If the Dodgers start talking with Boras and Manny I hope they re-think their initial offer.

Manny and what other bats in your lineup put you over the top in the west?  I don't think Manny wants to be surrounded by guys like Rowand, Roberts, Fred Lewis, Winn,Velez or Bowker.  As for the Dodgers pitching yeah we need and arm or two but Billingsley, Kuroda and Kershaw all who will be returning combine for 30 wins last year.  Maybe Arizona is looking good at this point but the Dodgers still take the division.  By the way I think I would rather have a hurt Jason Schmidt for one more year than have overpaid for Barry Zito on a six year deal.

Have youre way with the Giants next year? Dont want Manny, but he does put us over the top in the West. Can you even name a starting pitcher for the Dodgers? Lowe, he'll be gone. Penny, already gone. And where is Schmidt? Arizona is the best team in the West as of this point, untill some one..Dodgers or Giants make another move. Pads are easily the worst in division this yr.

The Dodgers should have signed Manny early on.  Now Manny feels slighted.  Not sure how much better he'd make the Giants, but a motivated Manny makes all around him better.  Unmotivated, he's a cross between a slug and a cancer.  I'd give him a one year deal for $15 mil. or a two year, incentive laden deal.   Otherwise he's not worth having...

I personally don't see this happening.  Who's going to bat around him?  Yes the Giants have made some good offseason moves but not enough offensively.  They need more than Manny.  Even if he chooses SF this is still not a team that poses a real threat.  The Dodgers will still have their way with the Giants just like the previous years when we beat them up in their own home.  Manny is a better fit in So Cal and in the Dodgers line up.
