Tony Jackson of the Los Angeles Daily News reports that Andruw Jones has been released by the Dodgers.

As MLB.com's Ken Gurnick points out, any team that signs Jones to the major league minimum will pay only $400k and the Dodgers will pay the rest of the $21MM he's owed. We know the Braves are reluctant to bring Jones back unless he signs a minor league contract.

I say he signs a minor league deal with the Braves and by the end of spring training he will either be the starting left fielder and the power hitter they are looking for or he will retire. The same offer was made to Javier Lopez when he returned to the Braves. If Andruw truly has lost the weight and gotten him self in shape, he could be a great piece of the puzzle. I say sign him then forget about a power hitting left fielder and go after Oliver Perez a power pitching left hander. Oh by the way, wouldn't Smoltz have been a great # 5 starter for $5 million ;-)

They'd be better of re-signing Dante Bichette.  At least he'd eat much less...

I think the Colorado Rockies could take a chance on Jones with an incentive laden contract. With a chance taken on him, if he pans out they could really be dangerous - and with him playing left field at Coors instead of center - we could have our best defensive outfield and one of our most dangerous lineups ever - remember Preston Wilsons first year here - that is what you could expect (.289 - 37 hr - 138 rbi - 20 sb)...not bad at all.
