Suggestion: Trade Batista for Dobbs

Posted on: July 1, 2009 12:38 pm

Mariners' GM Jack Zduriencik has some interal options to cover for his injured infielders however, Tacoma News Tribune columnist John McGrath suggests the club make a move for outside help -- specifically Greg Dobbs, a utility man for the Phillies.

McGrath says with Seattle's pitching surplus they could trade righty Miguel Batista to the Phillies for Dobbs.  Batista can start in a pinch and work long and short relief.

Suggestion: Trade Batista for Dobbs

I think there are better options available for the Mariners, than sending Batista away for Dobbs. The idea of moving Jose Lopez to 3rd and Yuni to 2nd makes more sense than this trade. Yes, the Mariners have bullpen arms to trade and Batista's contract is one they need to get rid of. Keep in mind that Seattle has a top 5 ERA in the American League, if not all of baseball. You don't always need to make a trade just to make a trade. Especially if that trade makes you mediocre at best.

Suggestion: Trade Batista for Dobbs

Why do the Mariners consistently trade away pieces and then get them back at a later date?  Dobbs was nothing more than a pinch-hitter here and won't be much more than that if he comes back.  Nothing in me wants Batista to stick around, but come on JackZ, make a big trade not these:
Morse for Langerhans - what is that getting us?Batista for Dobbs -?????????
Send Bedard, Washburn, someone big to some team and get a REAL Starting 3B or OF, not a scrub who has potential.
Next thing you know, the Mariners will be trying to ask Jeff Cirillo to come back to the team.
