A source told the Boston Globe that discussions between the Red Sox and Padres concerning 1B Adrian Gonzalez appear to be at a standstill.

Padres GM Jed Hoyer wants Clay Buchholz and prospect Casey Kelly or Ryan Westmoreland but the Red Sox won't include Kelly or Westermoreland.

The report also suggests that Padres manager Bud Black thinks Gonzalez will be a Padre for the start of the season and that the team has had discussions on all the rumors.

Talks on Gonzalez stalled

The Padres are asking for more than Buchhola & 1 top prospect... They want Clay, Jacoby, and either Kelly or Westmoreland.

I agree.  If the Sox can get A. Gonzalez by giving up Bucholtz and 1 top prospect, then they should do it without hesitation.  The Padres must be asking for more.  Gonzalez is a great offensive and defensive player and he is very affordable.  Now that the Sox have acquired Scutaro, Lackey and Cameron, Gonzalez would make the team great all the way around (pitching, defensive and hitting).  I am a diehard Sox fan and do not generally advocate for them to "give away the farm" to get one player, but in this case I think the deal for Gonzalez would be a great one.  He is still young and should have many years of great baseball in front of him.  By the way, I'm so excited that Halladay went to the NL and that the Yanks did not get him.  Hopefully they won't get Bay or Holliday either.

The red sox should just give up Buchholz and Westmoreland. That is not a lot to give up for a power hitter just entering his prime and hit 40 home runs in a pitchers ball park.

The Padres don't appear to be asking that much for Gonzalez (Buchholz and a prospect). Why wouldn't the Braves offer Lowe for Gonzalez? Could/ Is there any interest there?
