O's Roberts to miss first week of spring games

Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts told the Baltimore Sun that he is slowly "making progress" and plans on sitting out the first week of spring training games as he continues to rehab his sore back.

On Sunday, Roberts took live batting practice for the first time since being diagnosed with a small herniated disc in his lower back.

The switch-hitting veteran, who is about to begin his 10th major league season, batted .283 with 16 homers, 79 RBI, 110 runs and 30 stolen bases last year. He led the American League in doubles with 56.
