Rays, Blalock closer to deal

Mark Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times is reporting the Tampa Bay Rays are close to completing a deal with former two-time American League All-Star Hank Blalock.

Blalock, 29, hit .259 with 152 home runs and 535 RBI during his eight seasons with the Texas Rangers. The left-handed hitter struggled with a .234 average last season, finishing with 25 homers and 66 RBI in 495 plate appearances.
