Odds and Ends: Lieber, Tavarez, Oswalt

Someone always overpays in baseball, so Sabathia will more than likely get a six year deal. Can anyone say non-guaranteed contracts?  The MLB would a much better sport if contracts were non-guaranteed.  You get paid if you performed.  Plus, it would lower the annual values of contracts and make the overall league more competitive.  There is no way that Barry Zito should be paid for his performance.  If his contract was non-guaranteed, he would be fighting for a minor league deal with most teams.  The MLB needs to step up to the players union for the "good of the game."  Players that have guaranteed contracts have no incentive to play well.  Some players do (i.e. Chipper Jones and many others), but that is becuase they are motivated more by being a great players than getting paid a ton of money.
