According to Tracy Ringolsby of the Rocky Mountain News, the A's assistant general manager David Forst has turned down all interview requests. The feeling is that Forst is expected to take over for Billy Beane as Oakland GM as early as next season.

It has been reported previously that Beane would like to test his Moneyball strategies in soccer. A's owner Lewis Wolff also owns the San Jose Earthquakes of MLS and Beane may decide to focus his attention on the soccer franchise in '09. It is unclear whether Beane will remain involved with the baseball operations.

Billy Beane To Step Down In '09?

I agree.  Beane to step down for the MLS.  No way.  The MLS is big step down from the MLB.  Beane is a good GM and decent talent evaluator, but alot of his picks have not turned out that well.  Nonethess, he is still one of the better GM's in the league.  i am not sure why he would step down unless he is tired of baseball.

Billy Beane To Step Down In '09?

I'm gonna call bull...

Billy loves soccer too, and I know this.. but at this moment, he has built an Oakland A's team that is just firing on all cylanders, and has the potential to be REALLY good come next season and thereafter. I dont see him leaving the A's for the Earthquakes who are not yet established..

besides.. soccer management is a whole different ordeal than baseball. who knows if billy even sees himself in that realm.
