Mariners Release Richie Sexson

In a long-awaited move, the Mariners released first baseman Richie Sexson today.  They'll eat about $6MM in salary for the rest of the year.

Sexson, 33, is hitting .218/.315/.381 in 292 plate appearances this year.  Perhaps someone could pick him up as a lefty-masher; he's fared well against them this year (not so much in 2006-07 though).

Mariners Release Richie Sexson

Twins are $28 million below this year's projected budget. With Cuddyer hurt, I'd like to have Sexson in the line-up (DH) against lefties. Then, we could unload Mike Lamb and just let Buscher and Harris handle the 3B duties. Love to have Sexson crushing lefties in Minny, man.

And to all Mariners fans: Ever considered getting a real hitting coach? Perhaps that would help solve some of your problems as well. Your coaching staff has sucked every since Lucky Lou left.

I would recommend Kenji Johjima to be release too however that great extension they just signed with him might hinder that idea.  Management has been throwing money away why dont they hire Billy Bean!  Pay him 15 million a year, which is better than what they are getting from their high paid players.

Mariners Release Richie Sexson

It is about time!!!

Just another local player that the Mariners overpaid to try to attrack more fans.  What a joke of a franchise!!!  It is time to build within and go out and get Billy Bean.  Pay him whatever he wants!

Hiring Billy Bean would be the hire of the year!  Give him 15 million a year it is better than paying washed up player like Sexson.

Mariners Release Richie Sexson

Sad but true. Richie just couldn't hit at Safeco to save his life. I think we have finally come to the apex where the M's accept what they are in 08 which is failures. There's enough blame to go around everywhere. i love the message that this better get your A** or pack your bags. It's about freakin time. The M's have been too nice for too long. So glad that it's no more Mr. Nice Guy.

Maybe the M's should hire Alice Cooper as GM?

Maybe he could take Vidro with him?
