Cardinals Could Deal Lohse

Posted on: July 31, 2008 10:37 am

According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Cardinals are willing to trade Kyle Lohse in the right deal.  They're looking for a bat and a reliever.

Lohse could be one of the better names out there, though he's better served in the NL.  The Cardinals certainly won't be sellers - they're just percentage points behind the Brewers for the wild card.

Cardinals Could Deal Lohse

the Cards' need to make some trades but if they trade Lohse they'll suck even worse than they do right now they will still suck like they always do at the end of the season and losing Lohse is no way to solve our pitching problems

I sure don't know where he got this information, but if it were at all true this would be a BIG BIG mistake. He has been the anchor of the rotation since Carpenter has been out all season until yesterday ( what a welcome sight that was) and Wainwright on the DL for well over a month. I don't think the Cardinals organization is going to that dumb.

Would be a hard move to make, but the value we could have gotten for Lohse right now is too good to pass up. We won't re-sign him, i.e. Suppan/Weaver/Marquis.........Dunca

n continues to get these mediocre pitchers to excel and they move on to huge contracts that they don't live up to. Lohse will have a great opportunity this off-season for a huge contract....i just don't see the Cards shelling out the dough for him. Could have easily locked up a better hitting middle infielder.

All of that being said......for 2008 i am glad we still have Lohse and the Cards are in a good spot as long as Wainwright can come back and close for us effectively.......equally as important will be Franklin getting back to being a solid 8th inning guy......if not, Springer has been nails lately......just wish LaRussa would stop running Izzy out there

I agree that it would be baffling to trade Lohse at this time.  However, he surely will receive an over the top offer from someone after this year and if the Cards could get value for him right now, they need to do it.  Remember people, it's Kyle Lohse......

I agree 100%... it would make absolutely no sense to deal Lohse.  If we win the wild card, Tony will likely go to a four man rotation.  It would be great to have Carp, Wainwright, Lohse and whoever is else is pitching well at that point.  I feel like Looper or Wellemeyer would be better suited for the bullpen anyway... they both seem to clearly hit the wall after about 5 innings.

This one would make me scratch my head.  The Cards have Carpenter back and there is offense has been a pleasent suprise this year.  A good reliever is what the Cardinals needed and their GM has indicated that when Wainwright comes off the DL that is where he is heading.

The two needs of the Cards is a betting hitting middle infielder and a closer.  Anyone remember who closed during their World Series run in 2006....  Wainwright.  If they are looking for a bat it must be a middle infield bat, say Tejada or Renteria.

Sure Lohse is a Free Agent after this year but he is also one of the main reasons we are in a pennent race.  I don't understand.

This seems ridiculous.....  I understand it is just rumor, but the Cardinals now FINALLY have Chris Carpenter back, and will be getting Adam Wainwright back shortly.  It seems Kyle Lohse would be a key piece of a dominant new rotation with Todd Wellemeyer, and Braden Looper as the 5 pieces.  As we have seen countless times, great pitching shuts down great hitting.  The Cardinals have alot of bats right now, almost a surplus, with Joe Mather competing with Skip Schumacher, Rick Ankiel, Chris Duncan, and all star Ryan Ludwick for OF time, and Cezar Izturis sharing time with Brendan Ryan, Adam Kennedy, and the red hot Aaron Miles for playing time in middle infield.  One thing the Cardinals do need is a dominant closer..
