Greatest drummers in Rock

A friend of mine once told me that a band is only as good as its drummer. I dont know if this is true, but I tend to notice a drummers skill before anything else when I listen to music. Being a Rush geek, I set the bar pretty high. These are my favorite drummers:

Neil Peart

John Bonaham

Keith Moon

Alex Van Halen

Dave Lombardo-Slayer

Nicko McBrain-Iron Maiden

Charlie Benante-Anthrax

Chris Adler-Lamb Of God

Igor Calvera-Sepultura

Dave Grohl

This is'nt a poll, just a place to post opinions. Cheers!

That's too bad too.  Justice is my favorite Metallica album because it had a lot of progressive elements to it.  But, be that as it may, the mix on the drums was horrendous, esp. the kick.  Metal from that time seems very dated because everyone was aiming (or so it seemed) for the same tight, very compressed sound.

Yeah, I was never a Lars fan (though I certainly never disliked him as a drummer).  I thought his drumming matched the music well but he never really did anything that blew me away or had me rewinding tape to figure out what he was doing.  I didn't like anything after Justice though when they replaced Lars with Phil Rudd from AC/DC, or at least that is what it sounded like to me.

Lars has a weird way of playing, which makes his sound come off as loose or mildly sloppy to me. I enjoyed his earlier stuff, but lost interest after the Black album.

Gotta mention Tommy Aldridge and Vinny Appice here as well.

Greatest drummers in Rock

To be fair, I suppose Krupa, Rich and Morello should be on a different list, as they are jazz/big band drummers. However, many rock drummers claim one or all of them as influences!

Rock on!
