Are you KIDDING me?

I'm not gonna lie, I had some serious hopes for my Reds this season.  We finally looked like we had a few things worked out.  Last year the story was that we had decent offense but had awful starting and closing pitching.  In the off-season we acquired Francisco Cordero and Edison Volquez for Josh Hamilton.  Hamilton was going to be missed but he wasn't nearly as good last year as he is now so I thought it was a great idea.  Plus, we had some young guns like Cueto coming up to round things out.  Good news on the pitching front, and since I thought we had offense covered I was pumped.  A team that could contend?  NICE!  Plus, the word was that the Cards, Astros, Cubs and Pirates weren't going to be that great so we had an even better chance of running away with it and finally making the play offs...

Now we are nearing the all-star break and the Reds are 13 games behind the Cubs for the division title and well under .500.  It's not looking good for any form of a play off berth.  Plus, to make things worse, the Reds teased us with getting 2 games under .500.  We thought that with Bruce back we might have a chance at turning things around.  It was just a tease, like I said.  After that the team went on the road and we started going downhill.  Nothing seemed to work out.  We couldn't field, hit, pitch or run.  In fact, fundamental baseball was just not happening.  The question becomes, is it too late to make something out of this year or will the management finally start to make some moves towards next year.  Who will be traded and brought in before the all-star break, if anyone?  Personally, I'm holding out hope for a late season burst but I'll still be looking to next year for the real fireworks.

At least half this team is marginal in skill.
Third base, shortstop, center field, catching ... first base is a defensive liability. Left field is a defensive liability.

The only way this team improves is to shore up its defense and find two or three regularly solid hitters who can string out an inning.

We have come to expect more of the pitching than any team needs to expect.

Defense sucks.
Situational hitting sucks.

Recipe for a second-division team.

We have far too many utility players in starting roles.
That doesn't even address the Patterson issue, which is clearly the biggest blunder this team has made in 15 years.

A .500 season isn't realistic this year, and probably not next year either.

Our manager is clueless.

If we had FIVE Cy Young candidates, we'd still lose 85 games.

What we need to do is get past trying to make it work with what we have. We need to replace half this team.

I still think this team can make it to .500 by seasons end, but it's going to take a complete turnaround by our offense. But could we really ask for any more from our pitching? Our bullpen has been solid all season, and spectacular at times. Our starting pitching has been OK, Harang is having an OK year, Volquez is the front runner for the Cy Young, Cueto has been solid for most of the year, but Arroyo has fallen flat on his face. And I don't think we ever really expected much out of Fogg and/or Belisle. At least Thompson has been good in that 5 spot so far. For us to have ANY chance at next year, Busty will have to be gone. It's as simple as that. I have 0 faith in him whatsoever. If you look at this lineup and pitching staff on paper, we should be AT LEAST .500. He has not motivated this club at all and runs out the most nonsensical lineups I have ever seen. Not to mention his man love on Pattersuck to boot.
