First of all, the Cowboys draft was horrible. We didn't get one impact player that can step in and help us next year. I like the Mcgee pick because we were in desperate need of a backup quarterback and I think with Jason Garrett coaching him up he'll be a good quarterback in this league. Other than that, I've never heard of most of these players. We needed help at the safety position and I don't think we drafted a guy that can step in and start right away. We drafted a bunch of developmental players which could work out but we'll have to wait and see. The only positive I can take from our draft is that we can develop these players for depth.

Second thing is the rookie pay scale. The league and its owners need to step in and do something about this. To guarantee $41.7 million to a rookie who has never played a game in the NFL is ridiculous! If this pick doesn't pay off for the Lions it could set them back financially for years to come. I'm not saying that Stafford isn't a good pick but he's making more money than players who have actually proven themselves. I think that unless this issue is addressed the NFL is heading for a disaster. Teams can't afford to take on these kind of risks! I don't understand why a guy like Cassell isn't making this kind of money. Here is a guy who has actually proven himself in this league and isn't making near the kind of money being paid to Stafford. Where is the logic here?

And that's all I have to say about that!

Couple Things

As far as the draft goes, we obviously didn't have the cap space to be drafting second round picks which is why I think Jerry moved down. He's trying to save money so we can extend Ware. He didn't see the value at his second round spot realizing what he would have to pay for that pick. I guess I'm looking at the draft as a whole and including what we gave up to get Roy Williams. I hope it works out as I am Texas alumni and I heard that Roy has been working hard this offseason. Hopefully everything works out. I get what you are saying about the big names and personally I think Kiper is a complete moron. It's no secret that professional football players are some of the top athletes in the world. I follow college football very closely and I just don't think we really got a great player other than McGee. Hopefully I'm wrong. I knew that Scandrick would turn out to be a pretty good player, not great, but pretty good. Arizona was trying to turn my Texas classmate into a left tackle, he's a guard. Jerry wouldn't have given him that fat contract if he didn't know he was gonna be a moving wall. Looking back at our previous drafts we did great with Jimmy Johnson's drafts. HORRIBLE after he left and great with Bill Parcell's drafts and now that he's gone, we'll see. As far as this year, I'm sticking with what I've said all along about our draft. We did not get an impact player that can help our team this year. Three or four years from now, hopefully.

And I think that if they are going to protect the "business side" of the NFL they need to come up with a rookie pay scale similar to what the NBA does. In fact the talks have already begun. They talked about it this offseason at the owners meetings. I believe that in the future we will see some kind of a rookie pay scale. We have to!

Couple Things

Wats up Big D... I see you posted this a lil after the draft but at first you had me scared, but I'm sure by now you see the Cowboys draft implications. You must know those names Kiper throws around are just that names. You know that some of the best players in the league were drafted in later rounds, and if that was not enough you looked at the Boys previous drafts and that answered all questions.

Also I'll let u own to a little secret... I believe any player that make it pro is one of the top athletes in the world but what makes most careers go sour is scheme for instance Leonard davis was considered a bust in arizona but in dallas he's a moving wall, but it wasn't just scheme but sorrounding talent... u know when u draft a guy and expect and need the world from him whereas for example Scandrick was not a top five corner so he slid but alot of the corners drafted ahead of him did not look half as good because they where thrusted into the lions den and forced to guard top flight WR's week after week where scandrick was givin little responsibility until his play demanded a starting role.

Oh yeah your "second thing" about rookie salaries...you're absolutely right but as you know thats the business aspect of the NFL u even said your self the Cowboys did not get an impact player a big name guy thats why thats why they give them guys ( alot we won't know in 5 years) a impact player contract.
