The Best Damn Poll in the Land Ballot

Posted on: July 9, 2008 11:11 am

I thought I would let everyone take a peak at my ballot for TBDPITL. Go ahead and scream and yell at me, I probably deserve it in some way. After a second skim, I have noticed how much love I give Non-BCS teams, and how little I give the Big East. Didn't mean to, it juset ended up that way, Anyway, here it is.

1. Georgia - Can they handle the schedule?

2. Ohio State- People need to develop short-term memory loss

3. Southern California - Is Sanchez the answer?

4. Florida - Solid RB = SEC championship

5. Oklahoma- Breakout year for Bradford

6. Missouri- Tiger fans have to love being under the radar

7. Wisconsin - Win vs. tOSU at home and they could be off to Pasadena

8. Clemson - Can they keep the ship afloat for a complete season?

9. Louisiana State - The second giant to fall to App St?

10. West Virginia - They will miss RR more than they want to acknowledge

11. Texas Tech - Play some D = Big 12 championship

12. Illinois - Mendenhall will be greatly missed

13. Texas - Can McCoy finally deliver?

14. Virginia Tech - Still have NO QB I am sold on

15. Kansas - Much harder road will seriously challenge them.

16. Auburn - Could be moving all over the place in this poll all season long.

17. Arizona State - Calling it now, BIG upset over UGA

18. Brigham Young - Win early Pac-10 showdowns and the Cougars will be BCS bound

19. Tennessee - Fulmer has some work to do for this team to win the SEC

20. Fresno State - Take it game by game, goal 1: Beat Rutgers

21. Alabama - Let's see how these highly touted recruits pan out

22. Wake Forest - The best of what the ACC has left to offer

23. East Carolina - This year's BSU, could go 4-0 over the ACC and Big East.

24. Pittsburgh - Will challenge WVU for Big East

25. Michigan State - No little brother this year, best team in the state

Just missed the cut: Oregon, Cincinnati, Penn St, Florida St

The Best Damn Poll in the Land Ballot

Thanks for the kind words Pirate Nation. I do look at every team as a football team, not by the conference they are affiliated with. I love the underdog and wish you guys the best of luck. If you guys mangage to slay the Mountaineers and the Hokies, you guys could find yourself threatening my top 10. So keep up the spirit and GO PIRATES and GO BUCKEYES (not badgers jim ;))

The Best Damn Poll in the Land Ballot

rampage, The PIRATE NATION wishes to thank you for all the kind comments. Heck, I didn"t even know that a OHIO STATE fan would even know anything about the Pirates. It is a little strange that you would make a case for a Mid-major school. All of the other BCS teams seem to feel if they lose to ECU that it puts some sort of blemish on their school. I tend to disagree. Our football program is embedded with great pride and tradition. In 1991 the Pirates were 11 and 1 and ended the season with its highest ranking ever. # 9 !!!  I feel that this year will be a coming out party for the buccaneers. If we can pull out wins against VA TECH and WVU there are still people who wouldn"t give us a vote for the top 20. It"s nice to know that you look at us in the same way you look at your Badgers--- A COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM--- NOT BCS- NOT A MID MAJOR---- Just a school thats playing for one thing and one thing only. PRIDE !!!  LOYAL AND BOLD --- WE ARE THE PURPLE AND GOLD--- WE ARE THE PIRATES OF ECU!!!    Keep in touch with all of us in the PIRATE NATION, Jim

The Best Damn Poll in the Land Ballot

thanks Rampage for giving us some love in your poll. It is nice to know that for once a BCS fan shows us some love once in a while. It is also good to see that somebody outside the ECU fanbase thinks that ECU could do well this year. I could definately seeing them winning ten games no doubt but if they knock off VT and WVU and end up going undefeated, i am spreading the word all around here to get them into the NC game. But that is a long ways away so we will have to see how this turns out.

Badger, you ask a familiar question us ECU fans have had to answer a lot this summer. How are we going to replace CJ? Well to tell you the honest truth, we did not know that CJ was going to be like he was last year. I for one was not expecting him to go over 1000 yards rushing last season because in years past he had not even come close. Good news is that we have a lot of others who can step up and get the job done. We are actually 5 deep at the RB position. With D. Lindsay leading the way as a senior. Then we have Simmons who scored against BSU last year and then Jonathan Williams, a talented sophomore. We also have a true freshman coming in as well as a JC transfer.

At the WR position, We have D. HArris who was a great freshman last year, and did about everything. Expect him to line up behind center and run some draws every once in a while, espeially against VT. After him we have Jamar Bryand and Alabama transfer Reyn. He should be a great player as well. Heck he has to be to be looked at by Saban. And as for the QB spot. Pinkney was named the starter after the spring game. He looked really good in it and threw for a TD before a storm shortened it.

The Best Damn Poll in the Land Ballot

It is funny that you put 'breakout year for Bradford'. He may have to break out of jail....only kidding. I saw he got in some kind of trouble but didn't bother reading what happened.

The rest of the poll looks good. Continue to good fight non-BCS crusader...

The Best Damn Poll in the Land Ballot

yeah, I'm hoping they will change my mind.

I think I may be the non-BCS crusader, which is weird coming from a Buckeye!! I've always followed the mid-majors. Look for teams like ECU, FSU, BYU, as well as teams such as Utah, Ball St, Central Mich, and UCF to fight for position on my ballot. You could see ECU skyrocket up my ballot if they pull off the first 2 upsets. I vote during the season purely on who you have beat. So, if ECU beats a team in my top 15 and then a team in my top 10 in back-to-back weeks, they could find themselves in the top 15, easy.

Nice Ripster.  Love the East Carolina, Fresno St. and BYU picks.  Don't worry about the Big East.  You'll come around.

The Best Damn Poll in the Land Ballot

hahaha, that's the idea. I have always been impressed with the Pirates. They play with taht tenacity I love to see in a team and have that true underdog feel. I would have had them higher if it wasn't for their tough early schedule. Back to back games against WV and VT (both top 15 IMO) will be killer. But, if they make it out of those 2-0, I could see this team going undefeated. And, if they go undefeated, depending on how everything else plays out, I will SERIOUSLY consider giving them one of my BCS NC berths. Think about it. If they go 4-0 OOC, they will have beaten (as I think it will play out) 2 BCS confernce champions (or at least runners up) and 2 other BCS teams. That is a GREAT resume. This would be a track record better than any other BCS crasher has had. America will embrace this team for it's humble attitude and tenacity. I realy hope that I do look like a genius and I don't end up writing an "oops, my bad" post two weeks into the season.

I think if they do go undefeated they would have a chance to make the Title Game, but I don't think it would be a done deal. First of all I don't think they'd get in if there were two other undefeated teams from BCS Conferences even if ECU played a tougher schedule. Also a one lose SEC team could get in over them as well. So if UGA had one loss and ECU went undefeated I think they would go with UGA. ECU is a good team, but I got a few questions with them before I put them in my top 25, they are top 35 in my book, but not quite in the top 25. For one how will they replace Mr. 4.2 40 Chris Johnson. That guy meant a ton to that team last year. Also they have a bit of a quarterback controversy with Patrick Pickney and Rob Kass. They do have an experienced receiving core and a good defense so I think it's still safe to say that ECU should be able to have a chance to win 10 games this year. Also Rampageripster ECU isn't a slam dunk to win their conference. The CUSA is a good conference this year with some good teams in UCF, Southern Miss, Tulsa and Houston. All in all I got this team winning 8-9 games, but if there qb plays well I think they could beat VT week 1. Last year remember they had VT on the ropes for a while.

The Best Damn Poll in the Land Ballot

Nice job. No big arguments. I think Clemson is a little high and I wouldn't have ranked Alabama yet., but overall nice.

I was confused where to rank Texas Tech. I had them all the way at 11 to all the way down to 23. I settled right in the middle. I agree with Auburn probably getting moved around a lot.

I even think ECU and Pitt were good choices. I thought about ranking them both, but had another surprise team knock out Pitt and I think ECU lost to much to be top 25 in the nation though I think they are in the best in their conference.

Good first ballot.

The Best Damn Poll in the Land Ballot

Looks pretty good, and looks pretty similar to mine. Only differences are ECU, Wake and Alabama, but I have Bama and Wake on the cusp. I see your giving ECU a lot of credit, and if they look good this year you'll look like a genius.
