Golf stories-Week one of my golf league was o.k but not great. I lost my match on the second to the last hole when my tee shot on the par 3 was hit fat and landed 30 yards short of the green. (My opponent stuck his shot 8 feet from the hole). I chipped to about 15 feet beyond the hole and miraculously almost hit the par putt- coming up 3 inches short. He parred it and went two up with one to play- match over. Shot a 51, which netted me a 40 seeing I'm an 11 handicap. Not bad, not great.

Golf stories-MChecchi- great story. The Canadian geese are a huge problem here in New England. I've never taken one out but have come close many times. The course I play my League at has a border collie named "Mulligan"- this dog is unbelielable at goose control. He chases them all over the course, nudging them with his nose into the water. There's nothing worse than having 5 pounds of goose crap on each one of your cleats. An old Greenskeeper told me that grape bubble gum- yes, you heard that right- grape bubble gum keeps the geese away. I have one more tournament on the 27th of September and it will be time to put the King Cobras away. It's already getting down to the mid 40's here in R.I at night- I'll have to load up my hot coffee with annisette next saturday. For those of you who can play golf in December- god bless you. |

Golf stories-I've been golfing since I graduated college about 15 years ago. My game hasn't gotten much better, but I definitely get my money's worth. When I first started playing, we used to play a course in Alameda, California a lot. There were two courses, but we always played the same one, and only played nine holes (we always played twilight rates...) The first hole runs along the parking lot driveway and there were always a ton of geese on this hole. Well, I teed up and hit a screamer that never got more than an inch off the ground, and lo and behold, I hit a goose right on the leg. It squawked and jumped and flapped its wings, and then limped off with a few of his friends. My buddies busted up and gave me crap like you wouldn't believe. Well, then another buddy tees up... He hit a goose square in the head. It jumped up, sqawked twice, flapped its wings, and then fell dead in the middle of the first fairway. We just looked around at each other and said "Holy S$%t. What do we do with it?" We just snuck up the fairway, kicking our balls away from the goose and scrambled on our way... |

Golf stories-Great stories. One comes to mind. My buddy was just getting back in the swing of things a couple years ago in April. Out of maybe 200 rounds Iv'e only beat this guy twice. It's usually close though. After 5 holes he had a three stroke lead on me, and on the 6th hole, par 3, 168 yards uphill, he hit a weak 6 iron onto the green, bounced 2 times, rolled into the hole for his 1st hole in one. I parred the hole. I'm down 5 now, but his nerves got to him after that and I finished the front 9 just 3 stokes back. The back 9 was the best 9 holes of golf I ever played, even par through 16, bogeyed 17 par 18. He beat me by one, but it was a great day for both of us, and yes, the 19th hole was on him. The hole in one outweighed the winning. I did buy him a plaque though.

Golf stories-Hey goiggles, how ya been? Ceramic tile? That's one thing I don't fool around with......well, running electrical wire isn't really one of my strong suits either. Speaking of remodeling, I will be pretty much leveling my house next Spring. I live on a Lake and my house was built in the 50's strictly as a summer house. Over the years I've been chipping away on small projects ie.- small addition for hot water heater, busting out a wall for more closet space- stuff like that. The problem is, the house was literally built on stumps and railroad ties. I need to start from the bottom up. I've been building houses for over 20 years and have a few friends who will help me out so I'll save megabucks there. Alright, I lied, I've been building houses for 15 years- I've been doing bridges the past 5. I had to go where the money is but I miss home building quite a bit. As a matter of fact, this bridgebuilding racket is really fouling up my golf game- I should quit.......my job, that is.
Getting back to the golf- our team took 2 1/2 points last night, not quite enough to get into the playoffs. Oh well, like Ammirr said- maybe I'll take up lawn jarts. My girl is very happy the golf League is over, shes got me on Friday nights again. I had a great round going on (39 going into the last hole) and double bogied the par 3 and finished with a 44. Still can't shoot my age (39).......not for another few years anyway. |

The heck with bowling; take up something "safe" like : JARTS ! And, the sand-wedge was his; not to be confused with the sandwich; which he was eating at the time of his invention process. |

Golf stories-Sarazin invented the Sand wedge? You learn something everyday ammirr. What a terrible round I had this Friday, losing on the last hole wasn't even the worst part of it. There are 16 two-man teams in our League and 8 teams make the playoffs. Before our match yesterday, we were a half point out of 8th place and we definately didn't help our cause. We lost all 3 possible points and are 4 points out of the playoff bubble with two weeks remaining. Maybe I'll take up bowling?

Golf stories-Shot a 43 last Friday, 7 over par, which is a little better than Bogie golf. My League consists of 16 two-man teams.....the top 8 make the playoffs. We're on the bubble in 9th place but 4 points out of 5th. There is a possible 3 points to be had each week, 1 for each one of our matches and the other point is for the aggregate. I have been starting my round with a good buzz, feeling real loose and relaxed, thus the stress free rounds. To me, that's what it's all about anyway.
