Yankees Champions Again!

The New York Yankees have won their 27th World Championship, and all seems right with the world, at least for now. The Yankees have once again taken their place atop the baseball world, winning their second World Series of the first decade of the new century.

Hideki Matsui may deserve the MVP, depending on your point of view, but I think that Mariano Rivera certainly was at least as valuable to the team winning their 27th title. A-Rod has finally gotten the monkey off his back and should be a relaxed and very dangerous hitter in the next few years. I can only imagine how the guy will hit now that he's got no pressure to perform in the playoffs anymore.

As for all the usual allegations that the Yankees "bought" their title, that amounts to nothing more than sour grapes from bitter fans of other teams (hello Red Sox "Nation"). No one trotted that foolish trope out in 2007 when the Red Sox were the highest salary team to ever win a World Series. The fact is that all teams are owned by the extraordinarily wealthy people and they all have the same opportunity to "buy" any players they wish. Some teams are willing to spend more, but that alone doesn't guarantee championships.

Talent is most important and despite the petty jealousies of other fans, the Yankees have a phenomenal amount of homegrown talent including - Jeter, Rivera, Posada, and Pettitte, known as "The Core Four". Let's not overlook the fact that the Red Sox have used the same tactics they accuse the Yankees of with the signings of Manny Ramirez, Curt Schilling, Pedro Martinez, and Josh Beckett, to name a few. All teams do this, yet the Yankees are the only one to hear this garbage.

Winning, however, is the best revenge, and all Yankees fans have yet another great championship to celebrate. Congratulations to the 2009 New York Yankees, and here's to a repeat in 2010!
