Greatest Players

You would think that picking the greatest players by position would be an easy thing to do.  I am having problems with the forward/wings/center position because I do not consider them the same.  I think that you should seperate the wings and centers from each other because it is not like they do the same things.  I will give you my opinion as best I can though.

Forward

Wayne Gretzky is the best i ever saw and I am sure his stats speak for themselves

Defense

This one is tricky because there is a stay at home defensmen and then there is also a offensive guy that breaks out the puck and plays on power plays.  I will have to go with Bobby Orr  because of his all around game and his prowess in putting the biscuit in the basket

Goaltender

I will pick Pat Roy, most wins and many Stanley Cups with multiple teams.

Top players at their position

I noticed that we're not breaking the forwards down by position.  If that's the case, I have to vote for:

Domink Hasek- Goalie -   I know there are goalies with more wins, and better stats, but for a 5 year period there was not better goalie.  He was practically unbeatable.  He almost stole a stanley cup for the sabers, and single-handedly won a gold medal for his country in the olympics.

Wayne Gretzky- Forward- The great one.  There were better skaters, and shooters.  He wasn't the most physical, but he did things on the ice no other player could do.  He has more assists than any other player in the history of the league had total points.  (1.963 assists for Gretzky.  1,887 total points for the NHL's second highest scorer ever, Mark Messier).

Bobby Orr- Defense.  No other player had as great an impact on the way the game was played than Bobby Orr.

Great blog.  I'm really curious to see how this turns out.
