So many good CF's Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, but nobody says it all like Ty Cobb he's the smartest base stealer that ever lived.

Different eras lead to different choices... this is why baseball debates will go on forever... from Cobb to DiMaggio, Mantle to Mays, Griffey being the latest... each player has their own right to be on this team...

There are quite a few what-ifs at this spot too... what if Ty Cobb played in the smaller parks, would his power numbers increase... what if Mantle never tore up his knee... what if Griffey stayed healthy...

When it is all said and done, I am going with the guy who was a 5 tool player... Willie Mays... he had it all, glove and arm, speed and power, put the bat on the ball and did all he could to get his team a win...

What's happenin' Clutch? It's been a few weeks.Everything is pretty good here(except for my fantasy record 2-5[5game losing streak]).I've been so busy/preoccupied I wasn't even aware you were breaking it down into positions;but O.K.,I can roll with that. Now to reiterate something I wrote from your earlier concept of this whole best player idea,I will only vote for players I've seen play. One thing that must be pointed out as I read the comments you've recieved so far is the glaring exception of "The Duke"of Flatbush.Duke Snider. At the risk of sounding contradictary I've never seen him play;ask any Brooklyn fan who did and they'll bring his name up.Boy,there's a lot of good ones playing right now.In New York on your club a 5-tool talent dare I say,Beltran, perenial Gold Glover Hunter,World Series participant B.J.Upton(lets see them test his arm next year).I'd have to go with Kenneth Griffey Jr.,in his prime obviouslyYeah, when he was batting in front of Buhner or Edgar in Seattle...Whew!!! And if it wasn't for the injuries...he'd be closing in on 700.What a sweet swing and defensively;he had it all. Those damn injuries.     Stay Well Clutch,God Willing I'll blog with you soon.

Ty Cobb is too hard to overlook with his place in History, with Mickey Mantle a close second.

By far the toughest choice of any position.  In no particular order:  Cobb, Speaker, DiMaggio, Mays, Mantle, Oscar Charleston, Griffey, Jr.  I'll go with Mantle, with Charleston a close second.
