There have been a lot of questions about the pitching position...We will have a staff of 5...So everybody picks their top pitcher for the "ace" spot now..And then their number two and so on...Lets get this going!
Good luck voting!

C - Johnny Bench
1B - Lou Gehrig
2B - Rogers Hornsby

Greatest Baseball Team SP #1

I have to agree with most of the posters on here, this is by far the hardest choice yet.
1. Walter 'The Train" Johnson
2. Christy Mathewson
3. Bob Gibson
4. Cy Young
5. Satchell Paige

This might be easier if we could pick 5 before the 60's,then 5 after. This is a great debate! I cannot wait to see who wins!

Not to criticize, but I kind of wish you would have set some LHP/RHP parameters prior to opening up the SP #1 voting. I think it is almost impossible to compare pitchers from different eras based on the changes and evolution of the game. For example I don't know that we'll ever see a 30 game winner again with 5 man rotations, pitchcounts,  and bullpen specialization.  But that is neither here nor there. So without further ado, I will share my Top 5.

  1. Bob Gibson - Cardinals 251 Wins NL MVP -1968 NL Cy Young 1968, 1970 9 time Gold Glove winner 8 time All-star WS MVP 1964, 1967
  2. Cy Young - Spiders, Perfectos, Red Sox/Americans, Naps, Rustlers 511 career wins 749 Complete games
  3. Tom Seaver - Mets, Reds, White Sox, Red Sox 311 Wins 12 time All-star NL Cy Young 1969, 1973, 1975
  4. Randy Johnson - Expos, Mariners, Astros, Diamondbacks, Yankees 295 wins 10 time All-Star AL Cy Young 1995 NL Cy Young 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 WS MVP 2001
  5. Walter Johnson - Senators 417 wins AL MVP 1919,1924

HM: Nolan Ryan, Steve Carlton, Pedro Martinez, Roger Clemens, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Chief Bender, Mordecai Brown, Don Drysdale, Dizzy Dean, Whitey Ford, Bob Feller, Lefty Grove, Satchell Paige, Sandy Koufax, Jim Palmer, Phil Niekro, Gaylord Perry, Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, Curt Schilling, Don Sutton, Fergie Jenkins, Bert Blyleven, Jack Morris, David Cone, Dwight Gooden, Roy Halladay, Johan Santana, CC Sabathia, Brandon Webb, Jake Peavy, Warren Spahn, Christy Mathewson, Bob Lemon, Carl Hubbell

Wow... lots of choices... many deserving canidates.. will refrain from listing them all... have to go with Bob Gibson... one of the toughest SOB's in baseball... he was a deciding factor in MLB adjusting the height of the mound... quick story... Tim McCarver was catching for Bob Gibson, trotted out to the mound after a batter had walked... Gibson was facing centerfield at the time, as he turned he was shocked to see McCarver approaching the mound... advised McCarver to get his bottom back behind the plate, as the only thing he knew about pitching was that he couldn't hit it... classic Bob Gibson...

Walter Johnson is my Ace...

followed by Warren Spahn, Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver and Bob Feller.

I would advise the opposing batters not to crowd the plate!
