Vote for Your Favorite Songs - The K Bands

Posted on: September 22, 2008 8:24 pm

Greetings to my music and sports friends.  We're nearing the halfway point in the alphabet as this entry is a vote on the K bands.  Before we get into this entry, its time for me to announce the winning songs from the bands that start with the letters H and I.  On that entry I asked for everyone to vote for up to four songs.  That's ordinarily how many songs I advance to the playoffs after we get through the alphabet.  There was a tie for fourth place, so instead of voting off a song, I'll just advance the top 5 to the playoffs.  The five songs to advance are..

  • Crazy On You - Heart
  • Cats In the Cradle - Harry Chapin
  • Magic Man - Heart
  • Never Been Any Reason - Head East
  • Barracuda - Heart

I wish to thank some of you for helping me in finding some K bands as there aren't many rock bands that start with the letter K.  I took many of your suggestions, others I didn't as I felt that their style of music was quite different from classic rock which is the premise and intent of my blog.  I was only able to come up with a list of 60-65 songs for this category, but since I was tough on everyone last time, I'll make this easy and allow for up to 5 votes as many of you may have a write in or two.  If you wish to vote for a qualifying song thats not on this list, feel free to do so.

One more request.  I'll take any recommendations of rock bands that start with the letter L for my next blog entry.  This will allow me to have a more complete list.   Without further ado, here's my list of songs....

  • Can I Tell You - Kansas
  • Song For America - Kansas
  • Mysteries and Mayhem - Kansas
  • Carry On Wayward Son - Kansas
  • The Wall - Kansas
  • What's On My Mind - Kansas

Have at it everyone.  I'll be back later to vote myself.  I hope you don't mind me voting on my own blog.  Many folks who have blogs with voting don't vote on their own blogs, but I feel with the work and time invested, I'm going to get my own 2 cents worth in.

Great picks D2Moo.  I'll tell you, if I'd have had a 6th vote, I'd have taken Song for America.  Its an awesome song and doesn't get the play time it deserves on the radio.

The K category is actually easy for once.  I'll even get four different artists in here as well.  One and two will be The Wall and Song for America from Kansas.  Third is Come Dancing by the Kinks.  Detroit Rock City was a favorite Kiss song of mine and the final tune is Louie Louie, a Kingsman classic.  Great job as usual  there Lazer!

Thanks for the votes Bastyd, you've been missed over the past few entries, good to see you're back.  Thanks cleanandsober, I'm listing your vote for the Knickerbockers song and you may vote for 4 other songs.  If you want to vote for some King Crimson songs, go ahead.  I actually did nearly include King Crimson, however, I hadn't heard of them prior to D2Moo suggesting them in a recent blog.  Upon researching I found they had more of a cult following rather than mainstream and that their sales in the US were low and they didn't chart songs in the US either, so I decided to omit them, my apologies.  Thanks for the votes sfrye, Markstaff, t-rock-atx and bluesman.  Thanks for the suggestions Scott-24.

Here's an obscure one-hit wonder K-band. The Knickerbockers, from my old stomping grounds in Bergen County, NJ. They had a hit in 1966 with "Lies"  that when you first heard it, swore it was the Beatles. But that was "the sound" of that era.

And lazer, I know you need to put other bands in here...but as far as "L" bands are concerned, you really only need to pick one.  Just list all Zeppelin songs.  LOL

I'm sticking with the "classic rock" on here, so I just can't bring myself to vote for several of your choices, despite liking them.

    Lola

    Dust in the Wind

    Detroit Rock City

    Lick it Up

    Dr Love

Keep up the good work Lazer.  Kansas is one of my favorite bands, and I saw them in college, so I'll go with Dust in the Wind and Carry On Wayward Son. I can still see the scene in Animal House where they are singing my next vote by The Kingsmen - Louie Louie. I'll finish up with My Sharona by The Knack. And, ( I Wanna) Rock and Roll All Night by Kiss.  I can't really think of any L bands that haven't been listed. Great posters on this blog by all.
