Vote For Your Favorite Rock Songs, Playoffs, O-R

Welcome everyone to the 4th installment of 6, in Lazer's Great American Search for the Greatest Rock Song of All Time.  All of the first three installments have been popular with 35-40 CBS posters casting votes on each one.   Thanks so much to all of you, both my long time regulars as well as those of you who vote from time to time.  New voters are always welcome as well.  The more, the merrier!

After taking votes in the first installments of the playoffs for the A through E bands for nearly 2 1/2 weeks, I'll announce the winning songs who will advance to Round 2 of the playoffs.   I have refrained from voting in the playoffs but I did state that I would cast a tie-breaking vote and in this first installment of the playoffs, I did have to decide a 2-way tie for 6th place.  Here are the six songs that will advance to Round 2 and the votes they received:

  1. American Pie - Don McLean - 20
  2. Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult - 18
  3. Hotel California - Eagles - 14
  4. Hey Jude - Beatles - 11
  5. Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen - 11
  6. Dream On - Aerosmith and Livin' On a Prayer - Bon Jovi - 10 (tie)  If I were voting for the better band, I'd give it to Aerosmith hands down, but this is a vote for favorite song and if I'd have voted for my favorite 6, I'd surely have voted for Livin' on a Prayer.  So Livin' on a Prayer advances.

Now to the nuts and bolts for this entry.   I have a list of the 33 qualifying songs from the O, P, Q and R bands and artists that were advanced to this playoff round.  Only two rules...  You can only vote for songs on this list and you can vote for no more than 6 songs.  After looking at the list, I realize that's tough, but haven't they all been?  Time for you to have fun and vote, here's the list...

  • Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
  • Sitting On the Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding
  • Crazy Train  - Ozzy Osbourne
  • Wonderwall - Oasis
  • We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions - Queen

Vote For Your Favorite Rock Songs, Playoffs, O-R

Thanks so much for all the votes everyone.  Its funny how each time the vote seems tougher than the time before.  There are going to be a lot of songs in this group that are indeed the favorites of many that will die here.  This particular vote is going down in a way that is surprising me.  There's one song that looks like it will advance that I wouldn't have guessed and there is yet another that I see as a strong contender to go down to the last 4 or 8 that may not make it through this round.  I'm not going to name these songs yet, as I don't wish to be of any influence on how anyone votes.    Here's the tally as of now....

  • Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen - 19
  • Sitting On the Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding - 12
  • Crazy Train  - Ozzy Osbourne - 15
  • Wonderwall - Oasis - 1
  • We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions - Queen - 9

Every Rose has its Thorn - Poison     One of the most powerful Rock Ballads ever.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
One of Freddie's most moving Vocal performances ever.

Hit Me with Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar    &nbs
p;   Had to pick this But I don't think its her best.

Sittin on the Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding    &nbs
p; Picked it cause I'm a big Otis fan would have rather seen Shout though.

Money - Pink Floyd

; Really would have prefered the Wall album here, or the whole Dark side of the Moon album.

Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne    &nb
sp;    Loved it then, now and it will always be relevant, Could have used Perry Mason, too. Loved the message but I didn't get it until I was sober. LMAO. The man is a misunderstood musical genius and has scared parents for many generations now. But still a genius.

Definitely another tough list full of great choices. A couple of them jumped right out at me and the rest I had to think about. So, here goes...

We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions - Queen

Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne (This one is the sentimental favorite for me because there are lots of memories attached to this song that I remember vividly while others are just a big blur!!! LOL!!! )

In The Air Tonight - Phil Collins (One of those songs that was cranked with the windows open on the cruiser no matter the weather!)

Paint It Black - Rolling Stones (I could have gone with Satisfaction here because it seems to be a little more popular with some people but I prefer Paint It Black.)

Riding the Storm Out - REO Speedwagon

Its The End of the World As We Know It - REM
