Cribbs' deal with Browns worth up to $20 million

The Cleveland Browns signed Pro Bowl returner Josh Cribbs to a three-year deal worth up to $20 million on Friday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

The deal replaces the three years that remained on his previous contract and includes about $7.5 million guaranteed, the newspaper reported.

"It's a win-win for everyone involved,'' agent Peter Schaffer told the Plain Dealer. "It's a great statement by the new regime. It shows that the Browns are committed to winning -- and that they were willing to take care of their best player.''

Report: Bears deal with Peppers is imminent

Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers signing with the Chicago Bears is imminent, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday, citing an unnamed source.

The paper also said the Bears will hold a news conference later Friday to announce the singing of Peppers, running back Chester Taylor and tight end Brandon Manumaleuna.

New England and Philadelphia have also made a push for Peppers, but Chicago is offering a higher annual salary, the Sun-Times said.

Brackett faces decision

The Colts have moved into their final day to negotiating a contract with Gary Brackett.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Brackett's agent said that contract talks continue with Colts president Bill Polian, but unless an agreement is reached before 12:01 a.m. Friday, Brackett will become an unrestricted free agent and be free to sign with any NFL team.

Brackett is a seven-year veteran who has been the Colts' starting middle linebacker since 2005 and their defensive captain since 2007.

RB Thomas Jones to sign with Lions

Free-agent running back Thomas Jones will sign with the Lions, according to the Detroit News.

Jones, 31, gained 1,402 yards and scored 14 touchdowns for the Jets last season. He was released last week in a cost-cutting move.

Josh Cribbs could announce new deal

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Browns kick returner/wide receiver Josh Cribbs will likely announce a new deal with the team at a press conference on Friday at 5 p.m.

The press conference will be held at the 2010 Cleveland Auto Show at the I-X Center and Cribbs will sign autographs from 6-8 p.m. at the Hyundai display.

Texans could be interested in LaDainian Tomlinson

USA Today reports that the Houston Texans have been mentioned as a potential destination for former Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson.

Tomlinson has said he wants to join a Super Bowl-caliber team with an established quarterback. Houston is coming off its first winning season, has an explosive offense and maturing defense.

The Texans struggled to run the ball in 2009.

New Meadowlands could get 2014 Super Bowl

New York still has two more months to complete its 2014 Super Bowl bid, but the New York push to host the biggest game in sports gained momentum when the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee withdrew its bid, according to the New York Daily News.

New York, Tampa and Miami are the remaining candidates, with bids due May 1 and owners voting on the host city on May 24-26.

The minute Adalius Thomas is released by the Patriots, he could go running into the welcoming arms of rival Rex Ryan and the New York Jets, according to the Boston Herald.

Thomas might be happy to leave a coach who sent him home for being a few minutes late to a team meeting during a snow storm last fall.
