1. (33) KANSAS (E) 991 1-0 HR-1 LR-3 AP-1 CP-1 GP-1"Hands down the best team in the country. One of the best assembled teams ever." -Vol u me
2. (3) MICHIGAN STATE (E) 942 1-0 HR-1 LR-6 AP-2 CP-2 GP-3"Will face a tough Gonzaga team on Tuesday. I wonder if they'll show up, or pull one like they did last year against Maryland? I hope they pull a Maryland. Don't get me wrong, I know, they are an ELITE team." -Zagfan62
3. (1) TEXAS (E) 898 1-0 HR-1 LR-9 AP-3 CP-3 GP-4"I'm seeing a lot less of Dexter Pittman, weight-wise...He looked very good in Texas' first game of the season." -Kvskubball
4. VILLANOVA (E) 848 1-0 HR-2 LR-10 AP-5 CP-6 GP-6"This team I think has a long ways to come until they reach their full potential. The growing up of Mouph Yarou will play a heavy factor on how good the Wildcats will end up. They have a long ways before they become half the team of last year." -Ajplut
5. PURDUE (+1) 801 1-0 HR-3 LR-10 AP-7 CP-7 GP-8"Fire Power is there, They have to stay healthy. There not deep enough to have R.H. out again." -Shaunyboy
6. (2) NORTH CAROLINA (-1) 785 3-0 HR-1 LR-10 AP-6 CP-4 GP-5"North Carolina is 3-0, but they had some trouble with Valpo the other night. We must remember, this is a team that lost its top 4 players from last season. We should expect a few bumps in the road for them. Once they start to gel though, look out." -Chrisisbuck#2
7. (1) KENTUCKY (E) 739 1-0 HR-1 LR-NR AP-4 CP-5 GP-2"UK loses that Morehead State game if the Eagles shot anywhere near as well as they did at the end of last season. They could easily move up with Wall back, but their lack of shooting bothers me." -Whoridin99
8. WEST VRGINIA (E) 706 1-0 HR-5 LR-16 AP-8 CP-9 GP-9"West Virginia got off to a good start. De'Sean Butler scored 26 in the opener. Devin Ebanks was a no show for the game, checking out for personal reasons. WVU needs him for them successful this season." -Chrisisbuck#2
9. DUKE (E) 691 1-0 HR-4 LR-15 AP-9 CP-8 GP-10"Scheyer is going to have to play that well EVERY game, it's clear, because the Devils have no one else." -Schildkrottle
10. CONNECTICUT (E) 572 1-0 HR-5 LR-17 AP-12 CP-13 GP-7"Not a good performance need to be impressive next week if they want to stay up in the rankings." -Patrick3636
11. BUTLER (+1) 544 1-0 HR-6 LR-22 AP-11 CP-10 GP-11"They didn't spank Davidson, sans Curry...maybe first game jitters??? I'm wondering how Butler will handle a tough Non-conference schedule, AND the extremely high expectations!?" -Kvskubball
12. TENNESSEE (+1) 532 1-0 HR-6 LR-NR AP-10 CP-11 GP-14"Big guys should have some confidence now, that swagger is what makes them tick." -Shaunyboy
13. WASHINGTON (-2) 503 3-0 HR-8 LR-24 AP-14 CP-14 GP-12" With Isiah Thomas and Gaddy in the backcourt they will be tough, this could even be one of the top 5 backcourts in the nation, but they will have California to deal with to win the Pac – 10, with the loss of their two big guys Brockman and Dentmon I don’t see them making much of a run in the NCAA’s." -Iusucks
14. CALIFORNIA (E) 455 2-0 HR-8 LR-NR AP-13 CP-12 GP-19"Did not show me much against murray state, my opinion the most overrated team in the country." -Mango61
15. OHIO STATE (+1) 405 2-0 HR-6 LR-NR AP-15 CP-15 GP-17"Solid team posted 2 solid wins. Bigger test for the Buckeyes this week against the Tar Heels." -Wachoosay
16. MICHIGAN (-1) 371 1-0 HR-9 LR-NR AP-15 CP-16 GP-18"I'm a man who's willing to admit when he's wrong. I didn't have Michigan on my ballot for the preseason poll, but The Coaches had them 15th, the AP had them 15th, rivals.com had them 14th, Gary Parrish had them 19th, The People's Poll had them 15th (you get the idea). Then their boy goes and drops a triple-double in the opener. Even if it is Northern Michigan, that's impressive. So apologies, Michigan, and welcome to my ballot." -Pittbaster
17. OKLAHOMA (E) 294 1-0 HR-8 LR-NR AP-17 CP-17 GP-15"Four Oklahoma freshmen who played significant minutes all scored in double figures not to bad." -Froggiemlm
18. CLEMSON (+1) 226 1-0 HR-12 LR-NR AP-22 CP-23 GP-13"Looks to be a factor in the ACC this year if it can avoid the annual late season collapse." -Patrick3636
19. LOUISVILLE (+1) 211 0-0 HR-11 LR-NR AP-20 CP-22 GP-21"Will someone tell Pitino the basketball season has started??? No games this past week.." -Kvskubball
20. MINNESOTA (+1) 208 1-0 HR-13 LR-NR AP-24 CP-18 GP-23"Tubby Smith is an underrated coach with a good returning group, including Westbrook, they will make it to the NCAA’s and could make some noise. If they lose Trevor Mbakwe due to the assault case in Florida that could prove huge and well see what they are truly made of." -Iusucks
21. DAYTON (+1) 201 1-0 HR-13 LR-NR AP-18 CP-21 GP-16"Played a tough one vs Creighton but pulled it out like a good team should." -Jermtheworm23
22. GEORGETOWN (NR) 167 1-0 HR-15 LR-NR AP-19 CP-20 GP-24"Easy schedule to start the season, they need to start beating some of these teams more impressively." -Patrick3636
t23. GEORGIA TECH (E) 163 1-0 HR-8 LR-NR AP-21 CP-19 GP-NR"Yellowjackets' reclamation project off to a good start with a comprehensive win over Florida A & M." -Wachoosay
t23. ILLINOIS (+1) 163 1-0 HR-8 LR-NR AP-23 CP-25 GP-22"Bruce Weber has Mike Davis and Demetri McCamey back, with the addition of a solid fresh class including Brandon Paul who had 22 points on their opener will be tough, but can they survive the rigors of the Big Ten in conference schedule?" -Iusucks
25. SIENA (E) 129 1-0 HR-17 LR-NR AP-NR CP-NR GP-20"Short, Simple, and to the point, this team aint no sleeper anymore." -Hoosierguy10109

Breaking down the rankings:
With almost no meaningful games during the first week, the poll looks much the same as it did during the pre-season baring a few exceptions. Look for things to get a bit more interesting this week with some nice matchups including Kansas vs Memphis, Louisville vs Arkansas, Michigan St vs Gonzaga, North Carolina vs Ohio St, Syracuse vs California and Dayton vs Georgia Tech just to name a few.
Kansas comfortably holds down the top spot again this week going into their first real test vs Memphis on Tuesday. Returning runner-up Michigan St snags 3 first place votes and comes in at #2 followed by Texas, Villanova and Purdue who is new to the top 5 this week.
North Carolina slips a spot to #6 despite already having 3 wins on the season. Resurgent Kentucky is up next while the UK faithful look forward to John Walls regular season debut tonight. West Virginia and Duke are next followed by Connecticut who is coming off a less than impressive opening win vs William & Mary.
Butler comes in up a spot at #11 followed by Tennessee. Washington somehow slips 2 spots to #13 despite being 3-0 and coming off a win where they won by more points (56) then their opponent, Portland St scored (55). The top 15 is finished up with 2-0 California followed by Ohio St.
Michigan slips a spot to #16. The Wolverines are followed by Oklahoma. Who would of thought the Sooners basketball team would have the chance to outshine the football squad in a post Blake Griffin year? Clemson, Louisville and Minnesota are up next and all up a spot from last week.
Dayton continues to hold down the 21st spot followed by the only newcomer this week; Georgetown. Freshman led Georgia Tech and the Illini of Illinois tie for the 23rd spot. Rounding out our Top 25 for the week is little guy Siena who looks to be this seasons Cinderella.
