1. (40) North Carolina (E) 1000 8-0 HR-1 LR-1
"I'm starting to believe they could not only go undefeated, but win every game by 15. I knew they had the most talent, but I have never seen an offense run like that, and they get after it on D too." -Pittbaster
2. Connecticut (E) 949 8-0 HR-2 LR-4
"Got a scare, but scares don't lose you games or points in the polls." -Trespac
3. Pittsburgh (E) 906 9-0 HR-2 LR-6
"They're winning by an average of 20+ against mediocre competition. That's coming with a lot of minutes from the backups and two of their more athletic players (Fields and Gilbert Brown) working through injuries. They're going to need more scoring from their guards at some point, though." -PIttbaster
4. Gonzaga (E) 885 6-0 HR-2 LR-6
"Gonzaga has impressed me alot. It's not just one player doing it all, it's the whole team contributing" -Chrisisbuck#2
5. Oklahoma (+1) 838 8-0 HR-3 LR-12
"Had a tough game with Southern Cal. Griffin was held to only 6 boards. I would like to see how they do against a good team away from Norman." -Bksballer89
6. Texas (+2) 757 6-1 HR-3 LR-12
"Another great game with UCLA this week. Abrams was awesome in that game....Looking forward to Texas and Nova this week in the Jimmy V classic." -Bksballer89
7. Tennessee (+3) 689 6-1 HR-6 LR-15
"Bruce Pearl got to 400 wins this past week. He's the next great coach." -Trespac
8. Duke (-3) 650 8-1 HR-5 LR-20
"Bobble-head award to Duke. Their necks must be hurting from watching the ball bounce away from the basket versus Michigan. Jumpshooting teams live by the long ball, and sometimes they beat themselves, with just a little help from the competition." -KVSkubball
9. Xavier (+3) 623 7-0 HR-5 LR-24
"I'm not sure a 7 point win over Auburn deserves moving up three spots, but it's what the Musketeers get thanks to losses by Miami, Wisconsin, and Michigan State." -Pittbaster
10. Syracuse (+5) 560 8-0 HR-6 LR-21
"Most improved team in the country thus far." -Trespac
11. Louisville (+2) 545 5-1 HR-5 LR-NR
"They came to play in their two games after losing to Western Kentucky, winning those by an average of 37.5 points. I still believe they're better than some teams I have ahead of them, but they have work left to do to prove it." -Pittbaster
12. Notre Dame (-5) 524 6-2 HR-7 LR-24
"Disappointing lost to Ohio State IMO. They played pretty bad in this game only had 2 guys in double figures. Harangody showed up but I don't think the rest of the team did." -Bksballer89
13. Wake Forest (+3) 518 8-0 HR-7 LR-20
"Wake Forest does have a signature win over Baylor, but everything else on their schedule is fluff. Against Indiana their offense was overpowering, but they allowed too many easy plays and offensive rebounds to a team that was clearly overmatched." -Gezemice
14. Villanova (+4) 459 8-0 HR-6 LR-NR
"Haven't played a good team yet just waiting for them to play Texas on tuesday." -Bksballer89
15. Memphis (+2) 449 5-1 HR-6 LR-NR
"Memphis has all the tools to be a top 5 team this year. CJ Henry, the 22 yr old freshman (Xavier Henrys brother) is now recovered from his injury and Matt Simpkins has also been cleared to play. This is a very long and athletic team running with a 6' 8" point guard. They will get their chance to impress this week when they face off with Georgetown in Washington DC" -Halo27legend
16. Purdue (-7) 425 6-2 HR-7 LR-NR
"Purdue losing to Duke at home isnt a horrible lose but, getting killed on the boards by a small Duke team is less than impressive." -Halo27legend
17. UCLA (-6) 392 5-2 HR-9 LR-NR
"These guys are missing Kevin Love in a big way this year. All that fourth straight Final Four talk should be put to rest, at least for now." -Naterb
18. Ohio State (NR) 319 5-0 HR-8 LR-NR
"Big time wins over the U and ND and the Suckeyes had the most impressive week." -Trespac
19. Georgetown (+1) 228 6-1 HR-14 LR-NR
"I am a member of the "Georgetown is overrated" community, but I think it's only by a little. They have been playing the best so far out of what I consider the second tier of Big East teams. Greg Monroe didn't need any time to adjust." -Pittbaster
20. Michigan State (-6) 184 5-2 HR-11 LR-NR
"Most dissapointing team thus far." -Trespac
21. Arizona State (E) 174 7-1 HR-9 LR-NR
"Harden is a player, but don't believe the hype. This team is 2 and out at best in March." -KVSKubball
22. Baylor (E) 165 7-1 HR-12 LR-NR
"Been very impressive this season so far. They only lost came against a real good Wake Forest team. I think they have a chance to finish 2nd or 3rd in the big 12." -Bksballer89
23. Davidson (E) 158 6-1 HR-15 LR-NR
"A 5-point win over NC State tells me nothing either way, so they stay right where they were." -Pittbaster
24. Dayton (+1) 130 8-0 HR-16 LR-NR
"Good early wins but the jury is still out." -Trespac
25. Kansas (NR) 120 7-1 HR-14 LR-NR
"This team have been better than I thought. They only lost came to Syracuse in OT. They have 3 more challenging games before they head into Big 12 play....That's when we will see how good they really are." -Bksballer89

What it all means: (First place votes), Team, (Change in rank from last week), Points, Record, Highest Rank, Lowest Rank
Breaking down the rankings: Week 4 brought us a new member to the top 5. North Carolina remains the consensus #1 receiving all 40 first place votes and is followed by a Connecticut team that barely escaped Buffalo with a W last week. Pittsburgh and Gonzaga remain at #3 and #4 respectively but Duke slips after their L at Michigan making way for Oklahoma to grab the last spot in the top 5.
A fellow Big 12 team takes the next spot with Texas at #6, followed by the Vols of Tennessee. Duke drops to #8 after their first loss of the season and Xavier and Syracuse both make a jump and finish up the top 10.
Just outside the top 10 is Louisville at #11 who is looking to rebound after a shaky start to the season. Notre Dame is next coming off another loss to a ranked team. Wake Forest and Villanova fill the next two spots as they look to continue their perfect seasons. Memphis rounds out the top 15, up two spots from last week.
Purdue comes in at #16 after their beat down by Duke followed by UCLA who lost a tough one at UT. The next spot is filled by a newcomer to the rankings, Ohio State, who is fresh off a nice W over Notre Dame. Ohio State is followed by Georgetown where frosh Greg Monroe continues to impress. Michigan State comes in at #20 which may be generous considering they have looked nothing like a ranked team so far this year.
The last five look about the same as last week with Arizona State, Baylor and Davidson all holding their ground. Dayton gets bumped up a spot and makes room for the return of National Champs Kansas at #25.
Thats it for this weeks edition. Hope you enjoyed it! Make sure and look for the People's Poll voting thread each week!
