Road To The Final Beer: 2011 Championship

** CURRENT DAILY PICKS (02/24) CAN BE FOUND HERE. **

Whether you knew it or not, our Selection Sunday will be here on Sunday, 02/27/11.  Believe it or not, two year ago we had 25 people competing for the National Championship... On Sunday, I will announce the people who have earned an automatic bid to the BIG DANCE.  It will depend on the standings but we will likely have 4 AUTOMATIC BIDS (awarded to the top people in the Final Standings).

If you don't earn an automatic bid, not to worry!  We will still have several National Championship spots available through the BIT Play-In Round.  Points to date WILL NOT matter during the BIT Play-In Round and eligibility for the “Play-In Round” is strictly limited to people who appear in the “Final Standings” on Selection Sunday.  As of today, the following people are eligible to compete for the National Championship (via automatic bid or via BIT Play-In Round):

1) GeoMapster: 3195 points (355-166) .732
2) BoilerBadger: 2865 points (314-142) .756
3) hoosierguy1019: 2863 points (329-182) .703
4) Togneri7: 2734 points (325-166) .703
5) Lobofan2003: 2549 points (327-174) .716
6) s0merand0mdude: 2367 points (309-142) .734
7) LAOJoe: 2246 points (312-189) .670
8) Beer: 2240 points (331-190) .687
9) TranquilChaos: 2029 points (314-162) .702
10) apoloniaSeeker: 2001 points (274-137) .704
11) jonvi: 1966 points (229-128) .693
12) NCAABKJNKY81: 1898 points (316-205) .624
13) sfrye4585: 920 points (241-155) .655

If your name does not appear on this list, you can still post your picks every day but you won’t be eligible to compete for the National Championship.  There will probably be 8 people (we will see) competing for the National Championship while EVERYONE else (even people not on the list above) is eligible to win the Third Annual Beer Invitational Tournament.  Here’s the schedule of events and how it’s going to work:

BIT Play-In Round: Games from 02/28 (Mon) – 03/03 (Thu)
Elite 8: Games from 03/04 (Fri) – 03/06 (Sun)
Final 4: Games from 03/07 (Mon) – 03/10 (Thu)
Finals: Games from 03/11 (Fri) – 03/13 (Sun)

** All entries must be formatted properly (i.e. Rank-Winner over Loser) and the team names must be EXACTLY the same as the entries posted by in my blog. **

BIT Play-In Round Games from 02/28 (Mon) – 03/03 (Thu)  Click HERE (link will be posted) to pick your games
- Top 4 teams (with automatic bids) will continue to accumulate points but there will be no head-to-head matchups.  It’s basically for bragging rights and to fight for the #1 overall seed.
- All other teams will start with 0 points and will accumulate points over four days.  At the end of the 4 days, the Top 4 teams will advance on the “Road to the Final Beer”.  All remaining teams will stay and compete for the Third Annual BIT Championship.  Year-to-date points will be accumulated but will only be used for seeding in the Championship Bracket.

Elite 8 Games from 03/04 (Fri) – 03/06 (Sun)
- Road to the Final Beer: All teams will start with 0 points and will accumulate points over three days.  The 8 teams are split into 2 regions using an S-curve based on all accumulated points to date.  Teams will compete head-to-head for right to advance to the Final 4.  The winners advance while the losers slide down to the BIT (bringing their points with them).
- Beer Invitational Tournament: Teams in the BIT still accumulate points.

Final 4 Games from 03/07 (Mon) – 03/10 (Thu)
- Road to the Final Beer: All teams will start with 0 points and will accumulate points over four days.  The winner from the region containing the #1 overall seed will compete against the winner from the region containing the final #1 seed.  Teams will compete head-to-head for the right to advance to the Finals.  The winners advance to compete for the Championship while the losers prepare for the consolation game.
- Beer Invitational Tournament: Teams in the BIT still accumulate points.

Finals Games from 03/11 (Fri) – 03/13 (Sun)
- Road to the Final Beer – Championship Game: Both teams will start with 0 points and will accumulate points over three days.  The winner earns the right to call themselves the NATIONAL CHAMPION.  Tiebreaker is year-to-date points.
Road to the Final Beer – Consolation Game: Both teams will start with 0 points and will accumulate points over three days.  The winner should be happy to know that they are THIRD BEST. Tiebreaker is year-to-date points.
- Beer Invitational Tournament: The team with the most points accumulated between 02/28 & 03/13 is the the BIT CHAMPION. Tiebreaker is year-to-date points.

Please let me know if you have any questions and don’t forget to pick your games EVERY night.  Games and additional details will be posted shortly.
