Top- 25 Week 2

Is this the year of the Mid-majors. You have Boise St., BYU, Utah, TCU, and Houston all making claims of greatness. Smaller school all over are taking biggers schools down to the wire. And some are winning. This year is going to be fun.

So here we go my top-25 week 2 style LW= Last weeks ranking.

1. Florida - For moment it looked like the Vols were going to be the Gators first test. NOT!!! LW-1
2. Texas - Struggled early against Wyoming. Probably from the pain of looking at those hideous jerseys they wear at
    Wyoming. LW-2
3. Alabama - Struggled then rolled. Now onto the juggernaut that is N. Texas LW-3
4. USC - Barkley should probably call Tressel and thank him for the awesome play calling . LW-4
5. Penn St. - Still waiting for them to be teasted. LW-5
6. California - Who ever ranked Minnesota in the coaches poll should have waited until they played Cal. Minnesota will
keep it close for a while. But Cal will roll. LW-7
7. Ole Miss - South Carolina will be their best test so far. LW-8
8. BYU - Not sure they belong? Game vs. FSU should help clear up this silliness. LW-10
9. LSU - Time will tell whether on not the win vs. Vandy was significant. LW-11
10. Ohio St. - Almost put them at 11. Not sure they would beat Boise if they played. For that matter I’m not 100%
sure they will beat Toledo. LW-6
11. Boise St. - I’ll bet Fresno St. will give them all they can handle. It’s in Fresno too. LW-12
12. Virginia Tech - If they lose to Nebraska bye-bye top-25. LW-13
13. Georgia Tech - Miami might give them a run for their money. LW-14
14. Oklahoma - We shall see if they can beat Tulsa with Landry Jones at the helm. LW-15
15. Oklahoma St. - Was last week an anomaly or a portent of thing to come? We shall see. LW-7
16. TCU - Beat Virginia. So what? LW-16
17. Cincinnati - Looking like the beast of the Big East. I that an oxymoron? LW-18
18. Oregon St. - The first half looked like the their bowl game from last year. The forth quarter? Very entertaining!
      LW-17
19. Georgia - Way to almost give the game away! LW-22
20. Nebraska - First test coming up at VT! LW-25
21. North Carolina - Did they win or did Uconn lose? Just sayin! LW-20
22. Missouri - Barely beat Bowling Green. Maybe Illinois is even worse than anyone thought. LW-21
23. Utah - First test at Oregon. Is that right? Did I just say that? LW-23
24. Kansas - Duke? How many cupcakes are they going to play before we see a real game? LW-24
25. Michigan - They had better pound E. Michigan into next week. Or Michigan will give up it’s spot to Houston. LW-NR

Stuck outside of a locked candy store with noses pressed up against the glass: Houston, Miami Fl, Oregon, Pitt, South Florida, Tulsa, Baylor

Pre-Season Top 25

OK, everyone this is my first blog. So go easy. I will be posting my top 25 here every week of the season. I will also post the results from the TBDPITL. I may even include other tidbits in my blog if they let me. I posted my pre-season top 25 in a thread earlier this week. From now on you will only find it here. Unless I change my mind.

If you feel that you have ligitimate concerns about my poll I'd love to hear it. If you just want to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about because I'm from the left coast or am a fan of a PAC-10 team, then go away. I don't care what you think.

So without further ado here is my pre-season top-25.

1. Florida - Anything I say here would be redundant.

2. Texas - 2 words Colt McCoy. Oh and there is the small detail of being a better balanced team than OK.

3. Alabama - How is Saban going to overcome the loss of key players? To borrow a computer term: Plug & Play. He's good at that. But it won't quite be enough to get to NC game. Bummer!

4. USC -  If Saban knows how to Plug & Play then Pete Carroll is the master. Anyone that thinks that USC is going to lose to ND needs a CAT scan.

5. Oklahoma - Can they overcome the embarrasment of last years NC game performance. We shall see.

6. Ohio St. - The best team in the BIG-10. For now.

7. Penn St. - Clipping at tOSU's heals.

8. Virginia Tech - Everyone says that this team is the real deal. I'll buy it for now. But I might want my money back later.

9. Oregon -  Lost some starters but historically does very well when a solid QB returns. Masoli reached the top of the spread offense learning curve in the middle of last season. Last years 2nd string RB LeGarrette Blount had 1000 yard season and 17 TD's as a back up. He will keep the running game going. Ever see a tank that can leap. It is a beautiful sight. This may be a homer pick but others have ranked them higher.

10. LSU - See #8

11. Ole Miss - Rebs seem poised on the edge of greatness. The is somewhat unfamiliar territory for them as of the last couple decades. Do they have what it takes to take the next step? Bama and LSU may have something to say about that. The rest of their schedule is cannon fodder.

12. Boise St. - Your a great team year in and year out. Too bad your conference is so anemic.

13. Georgia Tech - Could just be GT instead of VT that wins the ACC. You see?

14. Oklahoma St. - Great offense. No way they get past Texas or Oklahoma with that defense.

15. TCU - Has the defense Okie St. needs.

16. Georgia - First game vs Okie St. will show whether or not this ranking is justified.

17. California - Javid is best but what about the rest. Tedford will have them ready.

18. Oregon St. - If Quizz and his bro can go: then in the wins will flow.

19. BYU -  Could win their conference.

20. Iowa - Third best team in Big-10

21. North Carolina - I see them losing to GT & VT and beating FSU.

22. Illinois - Time for the Fighting Zookers to meet expectations.

23. Utah - People don't give the MWC to much credit. But I think it's something that Utah is only the 3rd best team in their conference.

24. Kansas - I think that the Jay Hawks have an excellent chance of sucking less than the rest of Big 12 north.

25. Florida St. - Will have the distinct pleasure of being beaten by whoever they play in the ACC chanmpionship game.

Thinking happy thoughts about: West Virgina, Cinncinnati, Rutgers, S. Florida, Tulsa, Mizzou & tolerating the very presence of Notre Dame. Really I almost put them at 25. Beat Nevada and you'll be there...or something like that.

Yes I know that I don't have any Big East teams in my poll. Honestly one or two need to break out of the pack and show us they belong on the poll. Cincy is the most likely one. And I could have just as easily replaced one of the teams listed 21-25 with them and that would have been OK.

And now the pre-season top-25 from The Best D@mn Poll In The Land. Sorry for the cuss word in the title, they're a bunch of potty mouths over there.

109 voted on this poll.

1. Florida 3262 points (102 1st place votes)

9. Mississippi 2286 points

10. Oklahoma State 2206 points

11. Louisiana State 2214 points

14. California 1665 points

15. Georgia Tech 1640 points

16. Georgia 1578 points

17. TCU 1236 points

18. Florida State 1175 points

19. Utah 1068 points

20. Iowa 1007 points

21. Nebraska 826 points

22. Oregon State 783 points

23. North Carolina 725 points

24. BYU 713 points

Other receiving votes include: Notre Dame 504 points, Cinncinnati 405 points, West Virginia 331points, Illinois 275 points, Michigan State 229 points, South Florida 207 Points, and Pittsburgh 201.

I'm not going to list all teams that received points as there were 63 in all.

Remember people these are only pre-season polls. As in nobody has played yet. I welcome your comments.
