Football Picks Week 5 2009

Ok I went 11-3 straight up and 8-6 against the spread, so far 21-9 n 8-6 against the spread so far this year. So here goes week 5 picks both straight up and against the points.

MINN this looks like an easy win for the Vikings I have to go with the hot hand of favre and there d is good, I see a two touchdown win here.  However, they are on the road and strange things have happened, but I am also giving 10.5 to the Rams.

Dall going with the favorite hear, but I like KC and 7.5, Dallas just not impressive, and if cassel can get something going could keep it close.

Car , but take Wash n 4 not sure what Car team will show up.

Philly no problem here, but I just cannot give the 15 here, so take TB and the points

NYG take a lopsided win to the house, this has to be the lock of the week, take NYG and give the points

I like Buff at home but not very potent on off so lets take Clev and the points, DA might be back to where he was a couple of years ago and they can run the ball.

BALT at home but man cincy is plying good so take cincy and the 8.5

Pitt has not really been beating any team by alot, but Det is still Det, and Pitt should walk all over them so give the points here

SF they are playing real well, and are only one miracle play from being undefeated, (i will keep saying this until they get there second loss).  Some people like Atl here, but I am going with the the hot team and give the 2.5.

NE last week I smelled the Denver upset over Dall, but this week, Denv will be no match for the pats, so pats straight and give the 3 points.

Ariz I like AZ at home here, houstons D not the greatest, so Card should be able to put up some points, look for a 7 point win here.  Take Cards straight up and give the 5.5

JAC OK so I have not picked any underdogs yet  so here is my first one, take JAC to win + the points.

TENN, ok can they go 0-5, I am thinking no way, Tenn always plays them tough so this is my second underdog pick, but if they lose this one I will not pick them again.

MIA, Dolphins underdogs at home against a rookie QB that has played well early, but I am thinking teams are going to start to figure him out so he needs to adjust his game, just not this week.  Take Miami straight up and take the points.

There you have it, my pics for week 5, so far so good.  Hopefully I and keep it up so I can beat the so called experts.

Football picks for Week 4 2009

Well my first week was so-so at 62.5% but I beat Prisco's picks at 53%, cannot be all that bad.

Wash should be able to handle the bucs this week looking for a big game for Moss and Cambpell, but they are giving 8 at home this is a lot of points for a team that has a hard time scoring, but going with Wash both straight up and points.

Hous this looks like an easy win as well as the Raiders are having a hard time scoring points or generating any type of offense, plus take Houston giving 8.5, I am looking at a 10+ win here.

Tenn can Tennessee go 0-4 to start the year, it is possible since Jacksonville's offense was clicking last week adn they are back at home,  I am looking at a close game here, so take Jax and the points, but I am taking Tenn if they go 0-4 someones head is gooing to roll and it will be the QB's

Balt , I just think baltimore is clicking better right now and Brady is just not right yet, look for BALT to win and take the 1.5

Cinn has been playing better the last couple of games beating Pitt and GB, so it looks like a no brainer here, but I will take clev and the 6.5 it is a division game.

Giants should easily win the points and the game, take NYG clearly looking like the best team in the NFC righ now

CHI needs to win this game and big to show that the Lions one game win was just a fluke, if this is not a 10 + point win than Lovie needs to step down.  Take chic straight up and give the  10

Indy well another team that is favored by more than a TD, Indy really looked good last week against Ariz and should win this easily at home, take Indy and the points

NO I like NO here but the Jets are going to play them tough, if NO handles NYJ easily than they might be right up there with NYG as the class of the NFC.  I am not a believer right now, but a convincing win here will change my mind, but right now need to take NYJ and the points but NO to win here

I have to go with Buff in this pickem game, new QB is my reasoning here, but if RB can run than Miami might win, but I will stick with BUFF

SF playing really well right and one spectacular win away from 3-0.  So they should win here, but I like STL to keep it close SF offense not the greatest. So take StL and the 9.5

Denv upset of the week, Denv D playing real well now, hard to run against, I see them throttling Dallas run game so Romo will have to throw and it will be tough going, take denv to win and take the 3 points

Pitt has not impressed this year playing close games, so I like Pitt to win, but I like SD and the 6.5

Minn , just do not think Aaron is the answer in GB, Minn D is good, but this game is a test to see who is the better team right now and Minn coming off that miraculous will ride that emotion with a tough win against a div opponet, but I like GB and the 4.5 here.

There you have it my wk 4 picks, I am hoping to improve on my 62.5% win % with an ultimate goal is to beat the so called CBS experts, plus I am including my points spread favorites.  Looking for a fun season.

My footbal picks wk3 2009

Well I am writing this blog in response to priscos picks a so called expert who can barely barely reach 50% without the spread.  So I am going head to head with the so called experts to see if they should even called themselves an expert.

 My picks are as follows:
Houston should be an easy win here but i am playing walker so i am hoping jags can air it out some
Tenn just do not see tenn going 0-3, but hey they do have Kerry at the helm cannot repeat same stats as last year can he, well if tenn does lose here migt start looking at QB change soon
GB we are talking Rams here
Wash   Det might win this game just because they cannot be as bad as last year, i will wait n see until they actually win a game to give them respect
Minn Does singletary have the niners back already we will see this week, remember they started 2-0 last year, if they win here singletary could be i the running for coach of the year i know it is early and sea did have seneca in the second half last week, looking at a big minn win here
NE is NYJ that good or did NE have a bad game well if ATL wins this game brady n co still need to work out the kinks
NYG looking for a big win here unless they have the let down bug
BAL in a laugher? but this the nfl and there is that any given sunday motto, just do not see clev competing here
Phil Kolb/Vick/Feeley/Mcnabb would not matter in this game unless kc can muster up a ground game
Chi this is a good test for the Bears, however if they lose to a seneca led seahawk team, might as well consider this year a rebuilding year
NO   this game scares me, it is definitely going to be high scoring NO's defense is so-so, depends on trent n buff's d, I am going with the high powered Saints offense here, but would not be surprised to se buff win this one
Pitt is cincy back with that big win at GB, not sure yet, but if they win here might have to start taking them serious
OAK   going with the home team here in this game which has aal the makings of an ugly affair
SD   have not impressed this year, however need to stop that running game to win this one
ARIZ AZ should be able to move the all here
DALL Dall did not impress me last week with romo not trusting his wr's, but they are at home so i am leaning there way
I know all favorites except for Raiders n tenn, since this is just 4 fun why not. The only other games i see upset potential are buff n atl.  Anything can happen, I am also hoping niners to pull off an upset for obvious reasons.

I will do the spread as well next week, some of my picks this week are buff +7 6, bal - 13.5, phil -7.5 n niners +7  i will do full picks next week, my goal 4 the year is 75% w/o spread n 60% against spread.

good luck on your picks

Waiver Wire Receivers

Based on my two Fantasy League teams, WR waiver wire is pretty slim pickins, There are a few possible good receivers available like

1.  Chris Henry, might look like all troubles are behind him and Carson P coulb be healthy again good number 3
2.  Justin Gage was decent last year if he stays healthy could be a good number 3
3.  Than you have the old guys Joey Galloway and Isaac Bruce stll out there

But the real story is the guys who just cracked the starting lineups and could potentially have big years and are currently under the radar, remember Desean Jackson of last year.  So here are my 3 picks that should be worth watching in the next couple of weeks and might be a good fill if you are desperate for some WR help.  These are very cautious picks but should be watched just in case they blosson into something and they are

1.  Malcolm Kelly, WR for Washington a 6-4 wideout  2nd year player just won the starting position for the Redskins2.  Maurice Stovall WR for TB I know just number 3 right now but is worth watching if B Leftwich ever regains his old form back, and if AB or MC go down with injuries, already nursing.
3.  Laurent Robinsion, looking to make his mark with the Rams, tall gangly receiver and looked good in preseaon.  Yahoo has him as a sleeper pick this year.  If Rams defense is a porous this year as last year, Bulger will be gunslinging all year, problem with that he always on his back, it is a wait and see.

These are three that I will be watching but you never know there is always someone that comes out of nowhere and just hope you are the first to bag him before the other teams do.

Good luck and have fun this year, Fantasy Football is back.

Fantasy Football Kickoff

Well Fantasy Football has just kickoff after the Titans and Pittsburgh game and boy is it going to be tough to pick runners going up against the titans this year, Pittsburgh was formidable but the lost Troy might have an impact just have to wait and see.

Things I liked

1. Ben was awesome in the pocket again moving around making plays, 300 yards passing, Pitt is a running team but Ben can be a passer when needed
2. Britt look like he could be a player
3. Gage got that one td, little unsuspecting but he did have a good game against them last year as well
4. Tennesse and Pitts D, both solid
5. Santonio Holmes with 100 and a touch solid numbers in a low scoring game.

Well you can say I did not like the running games of both teams, but mewelde was affective in the second half catching passes out of the backfield.

It was a good game overall, hard fought just like you want to see, even though it was a low scoring games some players came out with some solid fantasy numbers so some people who were start big ben, Santonio Holmes or Gage came out ahead if they were relying on them.  However, people sticking with CJ or WP probably should of looked elsewhere because of the tough D Matchup.

Looking at this weekend. Looking for Brees and Co to have a big game against the LIons, however if they get up big might run the ball so Brees might not get that 300 yds but 3 TD's is not out of the question.

Well I hope everyone enjoys this fantasy football year because it makes football a little more exciting.  Look for my followup Blog for some insight on tomorrow's games.

Football Season

Are you ready for some Football?

This has to be the best opening day of any sports, it blows away basketball, hockey and Baseball, there is just so much excitement and anticipation to see how your team is going to do this year.

Is Brady healthy enough to lead the Patriots back to the top, or is Peyton Manning going to shine once again and lead his team to the Bowl.  I still like the Steelers because of Big Ben, might not have all the stats but man can this guy maneuver in the pocket and get off his throws.  I think he does this the best in the league.

In the NFC are the Cardinals going to repeat with that high powered offense, or do we have the old favorites to dethrone them, like Dallas, New York, Philly or the Pack. Vikings are looking like somewhat of a darkhorse with their stud runner in AP and the old man at QB.

It really does not matter football is fun to watch and even more exciting when you got your fantasy guys going.  Of course I joined two public internet leagues this year which always adds more excitement to the football season.

Right now you just do not know what to expect from any of the teams, of course you have your favorities but there is always a darkhorse that emerges and if that is your favorite team you are in for some excitement this year.  However, even if your team does not do that good and you are constantly complaining about your players or management, there is always something to cheer about during the year a big play or great game, (well except for the Lions the only they had to cheer about last year was that the season ended)  Hopefully we have no teams like that this year.

So sit back and enjoy this opening week because you just never know what to expect.

Crabtree

So living in the Bay Area i am getting a whiff of the Crabtree ordeal.  Whatever happened to proving your worth on the field and not with your mouth.  Crabtree wants to be paid more than that kid from Oakland because he thinks he is better, but he really does not know he is better because he has not played in the NFL yet.  I guess he thinks he has more potential than the guy from Oakland.  All I have to say is give me a break, just suit up and play some football.  However, if he wants to sit out becuase his head is too big let him, (easy to say if you are not a niner fan).  If I was a niner fan I would be screaming losing a first round pick for nothing is hard to swallow.

However, let's look at the deal from Crabtree's standpoint.  Niners really do not have a quarterback, so sitting out one year and maybe get drafted by a team that has a real quarterback (unless you consider the trio of Smith, Huard or Hll legit Q's), might not be a bad move.

However, this whole thing about being better than someone else because what I did in the past, is not a good reason to sit out, but if he wants to play for a better team he could pull an Eli and look to be traded.

Overall, he has planted a bad seed in many fans, but you know football and sports in general when he does start playing and kicks some you know what this whole theatrics will be long forgotten by many a sports fan.

Update for my second week of Fantasy

Here I am rolling like BART (bay area expression) with over 200 plus points thru 4 days of fantasy and low and behold my main man Soriano gives it up again, twice in two weeks and nets a negative 16 point day, and shoots me below the 200.  Not sure if he is worthy to be on my team, but I have him for 3  more games this week, hopefully he can get a save and maybe get back to positive numbers.  Most of my other guys are doing well.  Almost everyone on my team has over 10 points with edwin, reynolds, and crawford leading the way all with over 20 points, however my philly trio of Utley, Ibanez and Werth are underperforming probably going to make a move on one of them.
Overall I lead the week so far with the three games remaining plus 4 starts going into the weekend.  Need my rookies to come thru, with latos, anderson and niemann dealing along with Blanton.

Feel a little bad that I dropped Butler for Beckham, but hey you just never know, I also dropped thome for Willingham, both people I dropped are putting up better numbers this week, oh well, that is fantasy.
