NFL Week 14 Picks

Not a stellar week for me last week as I went 8-8 ATS.  More importantly, my online NFL picks show, The Mole & Meares Show, caught the eye of Showtime's Inside the NFL and is going to be featured as a segment next week, December 22nd at 9 pm on Showtime.  You can check out our most recent show at www.moleandmeares.com where Susannah from Showtime appears as a guest at around the 5 minute mark.  Okay, enough self promotion, lets get on with the picks, here we go...

Record to date (60-50-3)

Indianapolis at Tennessee (+3.5) - Indianapolis Colts - Peyton Manning has thrown 11 interceptions in the last 3 games and 4 for touchdowns in the last 2 games.  That is not the Peyton Manning we are used to seeing.  This week he has a favorable matchup against the reeling Titans.  The Colts should win this game comfortably because of the turmoil going on in Tennessee, remember they were shutout by the Texans who have one of the worst defenses in the league.

Cleveland at Buffalo (pick em) - Cleveland Browns - This game features two teams that I believe will have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs...next year.   The Browns are playing better all around football than the Bills and Peyton Hillis will have a huge game this week.  I will take the Browns.

New England at Chicago (+3) - New England Patriots - Game of the week.  The Bears have a chance to prove that they belong among the elite teams in the NFL, a place the Patriots are already in.  Unfortunately for the Bears, I don't think they have much of a chance.  I will give the 3 points on the road and take the Patriots and feel very confident.

Tampa Bay at Washington (+2) - Washington Redskins - This line seems awfully small for a Buccaneers team that has shown they can play with anyone in the NFC.  With that said, Vegas usually knows what they are talking about and I think the Redskins are poised to win a game now that the cancer of Haynesworth is no longer lingering in the locker room.  I will take the points and take the Redskins.

Atlanta at Carolina (+7.5) - Atlanta Falcons - I am hesitant to give up more than a touchdown in this game because I feel like it could be a trap game for the Falcons.  The Panthers are running the ball better and the Falcons have had some close games recently that could be taking their tool on their confidence.  If they are looking ahead to their match up with the Saints they could end up fighting to the end.  With that said I will still give the points and take the Falcons on the road.

Oakland at Jacksonville (-4) - Jacksonville Jaguars - I have yet to buy into either one of these teams but the Jaguars are leading their division and this is a must win road game for the Raiders.  Comparing these two teams, they both play the same game, pound the ball down their opponents throats and play stingy defense.  I like Garrard over Jason Campbell so I will give the points and take the Jags.

Green Bay at Detroit (+6.5) - Green Bay Packers - Detroit has been playing almost every opponent tough this year and have been covering a lot of spreads.  With that said I think the Packers are one of the most dangerous teams left in the NFC and they will take care of business in Detroit.  Look for Aaron Rodgers to have a big day against the weak Detroit secondary.  I will give the points and take the Packers on the road.

NY Giants at Minnesota (+1) - NY Giants - This should be a very interesting game with the quarterback situation in Minnesota.  If Farve starts will he be effective?  If Tavaris Jackson starts with the Giants D eat him alive?  Either way, the Giants need a victory to keep pace in the NFC east and they will be ready to play.  I will give the one point and take the Giants on the road.

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh (-8.5) - Cincinnati Bengals - Pittsburgh won a huge game this past week against the Ravens and now they face the lowly Bengals.  The Steelers seem to have played to their competition this year and I am not willing to give up 8 and half points to a team they lost to twice last season.  I think the Bengals keep this close and cover the spread.

St. Louis at New Orleans (-9.5) - St. Louis Rams - The Saints are another team that seems to be playing to the level of their competition and the Rams are a much improved team.  Sam Bradford seems poised to win the Rookie of the Year award in a runaway and I think he will play well in the dome at New Orleans.  I will take the points and take St. Louis.

Seattle at San Francisco (-5.5) - Seattle Seahawks - This line is sort of baffling to me.  The 49ers have a huge issue at quarterback and have decided to go back to Alex Smith this week.  As bad as the Seahawks have been on the road they need to win this game to keep pace in the NFC west and I think they will win this game outright so I have no problem taking the points.

Miami at NY Jets (-5.5) - NY Jets - The Jets are coming off of an embarrassing loss to the Patriots last week and this team has too much pride to allow themselves to play two bad games in a row.  People are questioning how good the Jets really are and I think they will prove this week they are still contenders in the AFC.  I will give the points and take the Jets at home.

Denver at Arizona (+5.5) - Denver Broncos - If the trend continues, when a team fires their coach they tend to play with more passion and more enthusiasm (see Cowboys and Vikings).  The Cardinals are just not a good team this year and the decision to allow Leinart to leave has seemed to have backfired.  I will give the points and take the Broncos on the road.

Kansas City at San Diego (-6.5) - Kansas City Chiefs - The Chiefs have a chance to sweep the season series against the Chargers and at the same time eliminate the Chargers from the division race.  The Chargers are really hampered by injuries and Kansas City has a really good rushing attack.  I like the Chiefs to win this game outright so I will take the points and take the Chiefs on the road.

Philadelphia at Dallas (+3.5) - Philadelphia Eagles - The last two times this time faced each other, Dallas beat the Eagles and eliminated them from the playoffs.  The Cowboys have been playing much better since Garrett took over the head coaching duties.  The Eagles will take advantage of their speed against a Dallas defense that hasn't been really good this year and I will give the points and take the Eagles.

Baltimore at Houston (+3) - Baltimore Ravens - The Ravens are coming off a very tough loss against the Steelers.  The Texans have had a couple of extra days to rest before this game but I still think Baltimore is going to be too much for the Texans to handle.  I will give the points on the road again and take the Ravens.

There are my week 14 picks ATS.  Check back next week to see how I did.

NFL Power Rankings - Week 14

*UPDATE* THE MOLE & MEARES SHOW WILL BE APPEARING ON INSIDE THE NFL ON SHOWTIME ON DECEMBER 22ND, 2010!!!!

Read my rankings below and make sure to visit us at www.moleandmeares.com to see our most recent video with a special appearance from Sussanah Collins from Showtime as we get ready to appear on Inside the NFL next week!!!!

After 13 weeks in the NFL the top teams are starting to separate themselves from the rest of the league.  The Sunday and Monday night games were two of the best games of the year and caused one of our top 5 teams from last week to fall completely out of our top 10.  Both teams who won the two premier games jumped up in our rankings and we have two new additions to our top 5 this week.  There are only a few good games in week 14 setting up a huge week of games the following week.  I would be surprised to see any major movements after next Monday but you never know. Here we go...

1.  New England Patriots (10-2) - Wow...the Patriots embarrassed the Jets on Monday night football.  Tom Brady is now the front runner for the MVP after throwing for over 300 yards and 4 touchdowns.  The Jets had a chance to answer critics who claimed they had an inflated 9-3 record and they failed miserably.  Since week 2 the Jets have only beaten one team with a winning record and last night it showed.  The Patriots defense played really well causing 3 turnovers and holding the Jets to 3 points.  The Patriots travel to Soldier Field on Sunday to face the Bears who are also trying to prove their record isn't inflated but if last nights game is any indication, it isn't going to end well for Chicago.

2.  Atlanta Falcons (10-2) - The Falcons found a way to win on Sunday against the Buccaneers even though they didn't play their best football of the year.  For the first time this season Matt Ryan through mulitple interceptions but the Falcons were still able to overcome the mistakes and pull out a late game comeback for a nice divisional win.  The Falcons have perhaps the easiest schedule left among the elite teams in the NFL as they will face the Caronlina Panthers twice in their last 4 games with the first meeting coming this Sunday in Carolina.  Barring a huge upset, the Falcons should be in the drivers seat for the best record in the NFC.

3.  Pittsburgh Steelers (9-3) - As a fan, two of the best games of the year are when the Steelers play the Ravens.  These games are without a doubt, the most physical games of the year.  On Sunday, Pittsburgh got the better of the Ravens, with Troy Polamalu causing a late turnover when he knocked the ball out of Joe Flacco's hands deep in Raven's territory.  The Steelers went on to score their only touchdown of the game and take a one game lead over the Ravens in the AFC north.  This week they welcome in the hapless Bengals into Heinz Field.  The Bengals have given the Steelers fits over the last couple of seasons so this game is no gimmee although I am hard pressed to think the Bengals have a chance.

4.  New Orleans Saints (9-3) - The Saints have quietly won 5 games a row and are only one game behind the Falcons in the NFC south.  I say quietly but some may say they have gotten lucky recently.  If Roy Williams falls down they lose to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving and if the Bengals had any discipline on defense Sunday's game could have ended differently.  Drew Brees got Pat Sims of the Bengals defensive line to jump offsides late in the fourth quarter on fourth down which resulted in a first down and the eventual game winning touchdown.  The Saints will welcome the upstart St. Louis Rams into the Superdome on Sunday.  The Saints need to be focused on the Rams and not looking ahead to their week 15 matchup with the Falcons because the Rams are fighting for their division crown.

5.  Baltimore Ravens (8-4) -  The Ravens suffered a tough loss to the Steelers on Sunday night.  They seemed in control for 55 minutes of the game only to fall short after a late game turnover.  I have a feeling these two teams will see each other again in January.  With that said the Ravens now have to turn their focus to Monday night as they will travel to Houston to face the struggling Texans who are coming off a mini bye week after playing last Thursday night.  I believe the Ravens will right the ship and get back on track with a road victory at Houston and I can only hope for that Ravens/Steelers matchup in January.

Honorable Mentions:  Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants

NFL Week 13 Picks

So I didn't put my picks up last week due to the Thanksgiving holiday, for week 11 I went 9-6-1, which is respectable.  I am feeling very confident this week as the games seem to be slightly easier then in weeks past.  With that said I am sure I will go under .500 this week.  Here we go...

Record to date (52-42-3)

Houston at Philadelphia (-9) - Houston Texans - The Eagles are coming off a very difficult loss and are on short rest against the visiting Texans.  I believe the Eagles will win this game but 9 points is a bit too much for my liking so I will take the Texans with the points.

Jacksonville at Tennessee (no line) - Jacksonville Jaguars - Not sure why there is no line for this game but even if there was I would still take Jacksonville whether they were favorited or not.  Tennessee is in a world of hurt right now with a rookie quarterback who looks like a rookie quarterback leading their team.  Should be an easy win for the Jaguars.

Denver at Kansas City (-9) - Kansas City Chiefs - Although this is a pretty large line, I really like the way Kansas City is playing and the Broncos have not been putting up a fight lately.  I think the Chiefs will take care of business and easily cover the 9.

Washington at New York Giants (-7) - Washington Redskins - Seven points is a lot to give up in a heated divisional rivalry game so I will take the points and the Redskins.  They lost a tough game to the Vikings last week but I still think they can compete and will keep the game close.

Chicago at Detroit (+3.5) - Detroit Lions - I think the Bears are poised for a letdown game this week and Detroit has played almost all of its opponents tough this year.  I like the Lions straight up this game so I will definitely take the 3 and half points and take the Lions.

Atlanta at Tampa Bay (+3) - Atlanta Falcons - I can almost say the same thing about the Falcons as I did about the Bears, this could be a letdown game for them.  I also believe that the Falcons are a much more complete team than the Bears and they will not allow the Buccaneers to be overlooked.  I will give the 3 and take the Falcons.

New Orleans at Cincinnati (+7) - New Orleans Saints - This line seems way too low to me.  The Bengals season is over and they have looked absolutely terrible at times this season.  The Saints are playing the best football they have played all year.  If they were giving 14 I would still take the Saints.

Buffalo at Minnesota (-6) - Buffalo Bills - The Bills are the best one win team in the history of the NFL through 12 weeks.  This game will be close and could go either way.  With that said I will take the points and the Bills all day long.

Cleveland at Miami (-4.5) - Cleveland Browns - I have been riding the Browns for over a month now and I they haven't been proving me right.  I am going to ride them for one more week.  I think they can win this game against the Dolphins because Miami is not very good against the run.  Give me the 4 and a half points and I will take the Browns.

San Francisco at Green Bay (-10) - Green Bay Packers - San Francisco is one of those teams that I cannot get a read on this year.  Green Bay is coming off a brutal last minute loss to the Falcons and they will be ready for the 49ers.  I think this game could get out of hand fast so I will give the 10 and take the Packers.

Oakland at San Diego (-13) - San Diego Chargers - The fact that this is the biggest line of the week really surprises me.  I know San Diego is playing well but 13 points in a pivotal division showdown seems like a lot.  With that said I think San Diego is playing that good right now and I will give up the 13 and take the Chargers.

St. Louis at Arizona (+3.5) - St. Louis Rams - Arizona is a really bad team right now having lost 6 games in a row.  St. Louis has a real shot at winning the NFC West and I think they will be ready for this game and will take care of business.  I will give the 3 and a half and take the Rams.

Dallas at Indianapolis (-5.5) - Dallas Cowboys - This is my upset pick of the week.  Dallas is coming off an extra few days of rest and a loss against the Saints.  I think they will play the Colts close and could pull out a win against an extremely depleted Indianapolis team.  I will take the 5 and a half points and take the Cowboys.

Carolina at Seattle (-6) - Seattle Seahawks - To be honest, I have no idea who to take in this game.  The Panthers showed some signs of life last week and the Seahawks are the most up and down team in the NFL.  I will give the points and take Seattle only because they are at home.

Pittsburgh at Baltimore (even) - Baltimore Ravens - Game of the week #1, I like the way the Ravens are playing right now, their defense has been steady and improved.  On the other hand, Pittsburgh has been struggling lately even though they have been winning.  It is very hard to beat a team in your division twice in a season but I am going to go out on a limb and take the Ravens.

New York Jets at New England (-3.5) - New York Jets - Game of the week #2.  This is the biggest game of the week and should allow the winner to get home field advantage in the AFC playoffs.  New England's defense has been too inconsistent this year for me to be willing to give up 3 and a half points so I will take the Jets and enjoy watching this Monday night game.

There are my week 13 picks ATS.  Check back next week to see how I did.

NFL Power Rankings - Week 13

With only 5 weeks left in the 2010 NFL season we are starting to get a clearer picture of who are the best teams in the league.  Week 13 will bring the picture even more clear, especially in the AFC as there are some matchups between top teams with the Jets traveling to New England and the Steelers heading to Baltimore.  We have a new number one team this week and one new addition to our top 5.  Here we go...

1.  Atlanta Falcons (9-2) - I hate the nickname "Matty Ice", mainly because he has yet to win an important game in January but I am starting to warm up to it after the Falcons defeat of the Packers last Sunday.  Matt Ryan is playing as efficiently as possible at the quarterback position and led the Falcons to another late victory.  The Falcons only two losses came against teams from Pennslyvania, so as long as they can stay away from one state in the union they should have a very good chance of making it to Texas in February.

2.  New England Patriots (9-2) - The Patriots played on Thanksgiving this past week in Detroit and for 40 minutes looked like they might have trouble with the Lions, but then they turned on the after burners and ended up beating the Lions by 21.  The Patriots defense is still a cause for concern and week to week you never know how they are going to perform.  They have their biggest game of the year on Monday night football this week as they welcome the Jets into Foxboro field for a match up of 2 of the 3 teams at 9-2.  This rivalry is good anytime they play, add in the division title to the mix and we are looking at the game of the year to date.  It all will come down to which Patriots defense shows up but a victory would go a long way to securing home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

3.  New York Jets (9-2) - The Jets also played on Thanksgiving when they faced the Bengals in the new Meadowlands Stadium.  This game was basically over before it started as the Jets won ever facet of the game.  Terrell Owens called superstar corner for the Jets, Darrelle Revis, average prior to the game...that sort of backfired as Revis held TO to 3 catches for 14 yards and made TO look like an average receiver.  The Jets will have their game of the year this week as they travel to New England for a showdown with the Patriots which will go a long way to decide the AFC east and home field advantage in the AFC playoffs.  If the Jets can limit their turnovers and shutdown Brady and company they have a chance to move up in our rankings.

4.  Baltimore Ravens (8-3) - The Ravens took care of business against the much improved Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home on Sunday.  The final score was 17-10 but the game was never as close as the final score.  The Ravens defense looked really good, holding the Bucs to less than 250 yards of offense.  Josh Freeman looked confused at times and definitely did not play his best game of the season.  Joe Flacco had a very efficient game and Ray Rice pounded the ball 20 times down the throat of the Bucs defense.  Balitmore will play host to the Steelers on Sunday night football in a game that will go a long way to deciding the AFC north.  The Ravens already beat the Steelers once so a win would give them a game lead with the tiebreaker.

5.  Chicago Bears (8-3) - Chicago has received no love all season in our rankings, mainly due to the lack of good wins so far this season.  They changed our thinking on Sunday as they laid a beat down against the Eagles.  The Chicago defense looked really good, limiting Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson from making any big plays.  They out-coached the Philadelphia Eagles and now stand alone on top of the NFC north.  They will travel to Detroit this week to face a Detroit team that doesn't quit.  Although on paper this looks like a game Chicago should win, they better take Detroit seriously because this would be a bad game for a let down.

Honorable Mentions:  New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles

NFL Power Rankings - Week 12

For the first time in a long time the majority of our power rankings remain the same after week 11.  Only one team falls out of our top 5 with one new addition.  Our top teams took care of business and this NFL season is setting up to be one of the most exciting come the end of the year.  It is still a little early but it is hard to imagine right now any team being able to rest players come week 17.  I can imagine a lot of playoff scenarios in place during that final week of the season.  On to our top 5, here we go...

1.  New England Patriots (8-2) - The Patriots held on Sunday to defeat the Colts after Peyton Manning through a very untimely interception deep in New England territory.  They remain our number one team for a second week, tying the record for most weeks at the number 1 position, that is how unpredictable this season has been.  I am still not sure they are the best team in the league or if there is even a best team in the league right now, but they have beaten the Steelers and Colts in consecutive weeks.  They have a short week this week as they will travel to Detroit to face the Lions on Turkey Day.  After their last two games this one should be slightly easier but that is what we thought when they faced the Browns and look what happened then.

2.  Atlanta Falcons (8-2) - The Falcons pulled away from the St. Louis Rams in the second half on Sunday and still have the best record in the NFC.  The Rams put up a valiant effort but it wasn't enough in the end and Matt Ryan continues to impress every week for the Falcons.  The Falcons will welcome the Packers into Atlanta on Sunday for what seems to be the game of the week in the NFL.  With only 3 games left on their schedule against teams with a winning record, this game could go a long way to helping them secure home field advantage in the playoffs.  A win against the Packers could vault Atlanta into the top spot on our power rankings.

3.  New York Jets (8-2) - Santonio Holmes might prove that he was the best pickup of the off season.  For the second time in as many weeks, Holmes scores the winning touchdown in the last possible second to give the Jets their third straight heart pounding victory.  The Jets continue to win games when you think their is little or no hope left.  They also have a short week this week as they will face the terrible Cincinnati Bengals on Thanksgiving night in Northern New Jersey.  Win or lose they will have 10 days to prepare for a showdown in week 13 on Monday night against the Patriots.  For the Jets sake, lets hope they don't overlook the Bengals on Thursday.

4.  Philadelphia Eagles (7-3) - The Eagles and Michael Vick continue their winning ways by taking care of business against the New York Giants on Sunday.  This game wasn't pretty with a ton of mistakes by both teams but in the end the Eagles found a way to win.  The Giants were able to contain Vick and perhaps give other teams a blue print to do the same thing.  This week the Eagles travel to Chicago to face the vaunted defense of the Bears.  This game features two teams that are leading their division at 7-3 and for Chicago, it would go a long way to proving they belong as an elite team in the NFC.

5.  Green Bay Packers (7-3) - The Packers ended the Vikings season on Sunday and in the process sent Brad Childress packing as he was fired yesterday.  They destroyed the Vikings in every facet of the game and they seem to be overcoming some of the huge injuries they sustained earlier in the season.  Greg Jennings is showing that he is one of the top 5 receivers in the NFL today while Aaron Rodgers continues to impress.  They have their toughest game in a long time on Sunday as they will travel to Atlanta to face the best team in the NFC.  If they win this game they have a shot at obtaining home field advantage in the playoffs and no team wants the road to the Superbowl to go through Lambeau Field.

Honorable Mentions:  Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

NFL Week 11 Picks

Is it just me or are these games getting progressively harder to pick?  I barely managed to be above .500 last week with a 7-6 record and this week doesn't seem to be getting any easier.  Lets see if I can improve this week and get my head out of my ass. I am also adding a new feature this week with a quick blurb on each game...here we go...

Record to date (43-36-2)

Chicago at Miami (-1.5) - Miami Dolphins - The line seems to indicate the Bears but I like Thigpen and I think Miami gets it done at home.

Detroit at Dallas (-6.5) - Detroit Lions - Dallas will be the sexy pick this week but Detroit has played everyone tough and close.
Arizona at Kansas City (-8) - Kansas City Chiefs - 8 points is a lot for a weak Chiefs offense to overcome but the Cardinals are that bad on the road.

Green Bay at Minnesota (+3) - Green Bay Packers - This is the lock of the week, the Vikings need a lot more than 3 points at home.
Baltimore at Carolina (+10) - Baltimore Ravens - Carolina is awful and won't score...look for a shutout and an easy cover.

Cleveland at Jacksonville (-1) - Cleveland Browns - The Browns resurgence this year is great to see and it will continue in Jacksonville.

Oakland at Pittsburgh (-7.5) - Pittsburgh Steelers - After last week's loss the Steelers will be playing mad...look for an easy cover against a good Raiders team.

Buffalo at Cincinnati (-5.5) - Buffalo Bills - The Bills are getting no respect after their first win, Cincinnati is not good and 5.5 points is too much to overcome in this one.

Washington at Tennessee (-7) - Washington Redskins - This line is way to one sided, I know the Redskins get embarrassed on Monday night but they will play Tennessee tough.

Houston at N.Y. Jets (-7) - NY Jets - Houston has just imploded since a hot start and the Jets will start playing well, I like them to cover but this isn't my favorite pick of the week.

Atlanta at St. Louis (+3) - Atlanta Falcons - The Falcons are the best team in the NFC right now and although St. Louis is playing well I still really like the Falcons to cover.

Tampa Bay at San Francisco (-3) - San Francisco 49ers - One of the three games that Vegas has as a pick'em (home team usually gets 3 points for being the home team), with that said I think Tampa is the more complete team but traveling across the country never works out well.

Seattle at New Orleans (-12) - New Orleans Saints - 12 points is a lot but New Orleans is coming off of a bye and Seattle has been awful on the road.

Indianapolis at New England (-3) - New England Patriots - Indianapolis is playing with their JV squad and without Peyton Manning they are 2-7, they are awful in Foxboro too, give me the Pats.

N.Y. Giants at Philadelphia (-3) - Philadelphia Eagles - Michael Vick is good, enough said.

Denver at San Diego (-10) - Denver Broncos - 10 points is too much for San Diego to give up, this isn't the same team as past years, I like a cover by the Broncos.

There are my week 11 picks ATS.  Check back next week to see how I did.

NFL Power Rankings - Week 11

Week 10 in the NFL might have been the best week so far.  There are huge shakeups in our rankings as 4 of the teams in last week's top 5 faced off against each other.  We have a new number one team and two new additions to our top 5.  Each week in the NFL brings new surprises and I highly doubt you will see the same order of teams after next week.  Why?  Because it is extremely hard to figure out who the best 5 teams are in the NFL at any given moment.  Here is my best effort...

1.  New England Patriots (7-2) - The Patriots receive our number one ranking after going into Pittsburgh and dismantling a very good Steelers team.  Tom Brady picked apart the defense and introduced Rob Gronkowski to America by throwing not one, not two, but three touchdown passes to the rookie tight end.  The Patriots defense rebounded after a horrendous game the previous week and held the Steelers in check for most of the night.  It doesn't get any easier this week for the Patriots as they will welcome the Colts into Foxboro on Sunday afternoon.  Which Patriots defense shows up will go a long way to figuring out the outcome of this game.

2.  Atlanta Falcons (7-2) - The Falcons proved they belong among the elite teams in the NFL by beating the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night.  Matt Ryan has quietly become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.  It looked as though the Ravens were going to pull this game out but with less than 2 minutes left, Ryan guided the Falcons down the field for the winning touchdown.  Roddy White is playing like a man possessed.  The Falcons have had an extra couple days of rest which should help them when they travel to St. Louis on Sunday to face the upstart Rams.  This game could end up closer than you may think.

3.  New York Jets (7-2) - The Jets pulled out another overtime win on the road on Sunday against the Browns becoming the first team in NFL history to win two consecutive games in overtime on the road.  Here is the problem though, the two teams they had to beat in overtime have a combined record of 5-13.  The Jets will be the first to admit they aren't playing their best football but they still are tied for the best record in the NFL.  If they start playing up to their potential they might be the team to beat in the AFC.  This Sunday they welcome in the struggling Houston Texans which could be a dangerous match up if they don't take them seriously.

4.  Philadelphia Eagles (6-3) - The Eagles shot up our rankings this week after embarrassing the Redskins on Monday night.  Michael Vick might be the best quarterback in the NFL right now because I am not sure how any team can actually stop him.  The offensive weapons the Eagles currently have make them one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL and a team no one wants to play come January.  If Vick stays healthy, there is no telling where this team could go.  They have their biggest game of the season to date on Sunday night as their division rival, the New York Giants, travel down the Jersey Turnpike to Lincoln Financial Field.  The Eagles can prove to everyone that they are the best team in the NFC with a win.

5.  Indianapolis Colts (6-3) - The Colts move into the 5th spot in our rankings by default.  They were the only team in our honorable mentions, other than the Eagles, to win this week and with the losses by the Steelers, Ravens and Giants, they get the honor of being apart of the top 5.  Their win against the Bengals was less than impressive but nevertheless it was a win.  The Colts are really banged up on both sides of the ball and without Peyton Manning behind center they wouldn't be anywhere on our radar this year.  With that said, they have a huge game against their hated rivals, the Patriots, on Sunday in New England.  If they can find someway to win this game then they can prove that they belong in our top 5.

Honorable Mentions:  Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers
