Kenny Wallace to attempt Daytona 500

By Pete Pistone

Kenny Wallace will try to make the field for next month's Daytona 500 in an entry fielded by RAB Racing.

The Nationwide Series team is hoping to run Wallace in as many of five Cup races this season with American Ethanol as sponsor.

Wallace will attempt to make his 11th Daytona 500 start. His last start in the Great American Race came in 2008, when he raced his way into the starting lineup via an eighth-place finish in the first Gatorade Duel.

Wallace piloted the RAB Nationwide Series Toyota in 2011 and finished seventh in the standings, a career-best for the Concord, N.C.-based team, after posting 11 top-10 finishes.

The crew chief for the #09 American Ethanol Toyota Camry will be announced at a later date.

Wallace on standby for Kenseth

Posted By Pete Pistone

Kenny Wallace will be Matt Kenseth's replacement driver should he be called away for fatherhood duties during "Speedweeks" activities in Daytona.

Wallace told Sirius NASCAR Radio he has been tabbed to replace Kenseth during Bud Shootout, Gatorade Duel or Daytona 500 action should Katie Kenseth go into labor with the couple's second child.

Roush Fenway Racing General Manager Robbie Reiser contacted Wallace Monday evening to put the plan in place.

Wallace is planning to run the full Nationwide Series schedule for RAB Racing in 2011.
