Jeter scratched from Yankees' lineup

Derek Jeter was scratched from the Yankees lineup on Saturday with a bruised right heel and Ramiro Pena will get the start at shortstop against the Mets.

Jeter hurt his foot in Friday's game and is in a slump. Jeter has just one hit in his last 20 at-bats and "Captain Clutch" failed to live up to his name Friday night, as he struck out on three pitches with bases loaded and one out with the bases loaded. In June, Jeter is hitting just .209. That's still better than his replacement, Pena is hitting  .186 on the season.

Alex Rodriguez played third base last night, so he is the designated hitter today, with Jorge Posada behind the plate for the first time since Wednesday.

A-Rod to DH against Phillies

Alex Rodriguez is back in the Yankees' lineup, but he's the team's designated hitter and not playing third base.

“We watched him take ground balls and I just didn’t think he had the lateral movement we want to see quite yet," Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters before Wednesday’s game .

Rodriguez hasn't played since leaving last Thursday's game against the Orioles with tendinitis in his right hip flexor.

Kevin Russo is starting at third base for the Yankeess.

A-Rod expected back

Yankees manager Joe Girardi says third baseman Alex Rodriguez could return to the lineup tomorrow night when the Yankees open a series against the Phillies.

"My hope is we'll have him (tomorrow)," Girardi told the New York Post . "I can't tell you exactly what that would be, if it's a DH or possibly a full-fledged player."
Rodriguez has not played since Thursday, when he left a game with stiffness in his leg. On Friday he was diagnosed with tendinitis in his hip flexor.

A-Rod out until at least Tuesday

Alex Rodriguez won't play in the Yankees' series against the Astros this weekend, AOL FanHouse's Ed Price reports .

The Yankees open a three-game series against the Phillies at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.

Rodriguez came out of Thursday's game in Baltimore before his first at-bat and missed several games this past week with a groin issue. Rodriguez has repeatedly said the issue is not with his hip, which he had surgery on before the 2009 season.

A-Rod diagnosis: hip flexor tendinitis

Yankees manager Joe Girardi just told reporters Alex Rodriguez saw a doctor today and was diagnosed with tendinitis in his hip flexor. He's out of the starting lineup, but available to pinch hit.

Rodriguez has twice this week come out of games with what the team called groin tightness. Concern has been that the discomfort was related to surgery he had last year to repair a labrum tear in his hip, but Girardi said the current injury is in a different area.

"That’s good news to me," Girardi said (via New York Daily News on Twitter).

Ramiro Pena will start tonight at third base in place of Rodriguez.

A-Rod pulled from game

Alex Rodriguez left Thursday's game in Baltimore before his first at-bat of the game. Rodriguez was replaced by Ramiro Pena.

Rodriguez left Sunday's 4-3 victory over the Blue Jays in the ninth inning with tightness in his right groin.

Rodriguez did not field a ball in the bottom of the first.

UPDATE : The Yankees say Rodriguez is day-to-day because of the groin injury and will be examined by a doctor on Friday.

UPDATE: Rodriguez told reporters after the game that he was fine and hopes to play Friday night.

"The last two days it has felt the exact same way and once it got warm it was OK. Today, it cramped up right before batting practice," Rodriguez said .
