Yankees block D-Backs GM search

The Yankees have denied the Diamondbacks permission to speak to Damon Oppenheimer, New York's vice president of amateur scouting, about their opening for general manager.

FoxSports.com first reported the news, and the Arizona Republic 's Nick Piecoro has confirmed the report.

Although it does seem harsh, Piecoro reminds us the Yankees did the same thing when Arizona was searching for a GM five years ago when the team wanted to interview Mark Newman.

Oppenheimer has run the Yankees' drafts since 2005.

Jerry Dipoto, Kevin Towers and Logan White are thought to be the front-runners for the job and interviews are expected to begin next week.

D-Backs zeroing in on GM candidates

The Arizona Diamondbacks have said they'd like a new general manager in place as soon as possible, and now the team reportedly will begin interviewing people over the "next couple of weeks."

FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi has a list of six the Diamondbacks are expected to interview, including interim GM Jerry Dipoto. Morosi says sources tell him Arizona's higher-ups were satisfied with Dipoto's deadline-deals after he took over for Josh Byrnes.

The others listed by Morosi are current assistant GM Peter Woodfork, former Padres GM Kevin Towers, the Yankees' Damon Oppenheimer, the Dodgers' De Jon Watson and Logan White.
