The Angels will limp along without shortstop Erick Aybar for at least the next couple of days after suffering damage to the meniscus of his left knee, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register .
Aybar hyperextended his knee on Monday on a play at second when Milwaukee's Casey McGehee slid into him on a force play. On the play, Aybar was clearly not trying to turn the double play and McGahee went in hard to take him out.
An MRI done Tuesday revealed the damage to the cartilage in Aybar's knee. There is yet to be a determination on how long he will be out, but he will be re-evaluated later this week.
Aybar's injury does free up a spot for Brandon Wood, Plunkett noted. Wood was activated before Tuesday's game and started at third base. Wood should also split time at shortstop with Maicer Izturis. Izturis has been on the disabled list once already this season with shoulder inflammation and also been bothered by leg issues.
"It'll be day-to-day," Mike Scioscia said of his lineup. "We'll have enough depth there to see how Maicer holds up."
