Aguilera might have hosed anthem bettors too

Posted by Will Brinson

DALLAS -- Last night, we discussed just how terrible Christina Aguilera's national anthem was (and showed you video proof).

Here's another little interesting twist though: Aguilera, by flubbing the lyrics to the "Star Spangled Banner," might have messed up prop bets for millions of degenerates Americans.

According to the always excellent R.J. Bell of PreGame.com, the average over/under for Aguilera's anthem time was 1:54, and the majority of bets placed by the public were on the over for that time.

Websites that clocked the time (Vegas casinos don't offer that particular prop), are primarily bringing the bet in as a win for the under, which means a lot of people lost money.

But if Aguilera hadn't screwed the pooch on the lyrics to the Anthem, she would have extended her singing time by a couple of seconds and anyone who bet on the over would have won their bet.

So not only did Christina Aguilera embarrass herself and the country, but she stole a lot of people's money as well. Maybe she'll give them tickets to next year's Super Bowl as a way of saying sorry.

Update (11:25): Sportsbook.com announced on Twitter that they're paying BOTH sides of the bet, which is surprising.

Christina Aguilera botches national anthem at SB

Posted by Will Brinson

DALLAS -- A lot of people complained about the Black Eyed Peas performance at halftime of the Super Bowl. And that's cool -- because if you don't like them (I don't) then you have a reasonable excuse for saying that.

But you know what there's no reasonable excuse for? Performing the national anthem at the Super Bowl and not knowing the freaking words. Which is what Christina Aguilera did on Sunday in Dallas.

It wasn't anything as silly and terrible as Carl Lewis' rendition, obviously, but she whiffed on multiple words and then added some of her own and generally looked like a chump. It sounded cool inside the stadium because, well, everything sounds cool in Cowboys Stadium. But make no mistake, Aguilera egged.
