The $25,000 that Andrew Johnson and Cortland Finnegan paid from last week’s fight were not the biggest fines to come out of the Texans-Titans game. According to the Associated Press, the NFL docked Texans safety Bernard Pollard $40,000 for unnecessary roughness against Titans wideout Justin Gage. The league ruled that Pollard struck a defenseless Gage in the head.
Pollard’s fine was steeper because he was a repeat offender (he was fined $5,000 earlier in the season for a violation against his former Chiefs team). On an unrelated note (or perhaps a related note, who knows?) Pollard had a terrific game against the Eagles Thursday night. He was a maniac as an extra run defender in the box, and he made a few nice plays between the numbers in pass coverage (an area he has struggled for most of this season).
Other players fined for hits this week…
Panthers safety Sherrod Martin 40K, Cardinals offensive lineman Jeremy Bridges 20K and Cardinals linebacker Clark Haggans 10K. Packers linebacker Matt Wilhelm also paid $5,000 for a major facemask.

FINALLY! A movement in Denver for the Broncos to make their alternate third orange jerseys their official home jersey. The Falcons and Titans have both done this in recent years (Falcons’ red jerseys used to be an alternate to their black; Titans sky blue jerseys used to be an alternate to navy blue).
