Boston College fans received some troubling news when star running back and ACC Preseason Player of the Year Montel Harris underwent another arthroscopic knee surgery last week, his second in nearly nine months. The running back position took another hit on Sunday with second-string sophomore Andre Williams suffering an ankle injury in Sunday's intrasquad scrimmage.
According to the team's scrimmage notes, Williams carried the ball seven times for 42 yards before leaving the field with an ankle sprain. No word has been given on the severity of the injury, but it would seem likely that the back-up from Schnecksville, PA will miss the Eagles' opener against Northwestern on Sept. 3.
When Harris injured his knee last November, Williams put together a string of stellar performances in his absence. Williams totaled 363 yards and 2 touchdowns in the final three games of the season. Williams was expected to have a more prominent role from the start in 2011, taking some of the load of Harris' shoulders. With both backs recovering from injuries, the rushing duties for season opener will likely be in the hands of sophomore Rolandan Finch and redshirt freshman Tahj Kimble.
