Some sad news out of Stillwater this weekend. Oklahoma State co-defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer left the team on Saturday night before the Cowboys game against Tulsa started to return home to Stillwater to be with his wife. Angela Spencer then passed away shortly after Oklahoma State's game finally began.
Spencer has now taken a leave of absence from the team.
“We have a very close team of coaches and players that care about each other, so we were concerned when Glenn left there during the delay," Mike Gundy told The Oklahoman. “She was having a tough time, and then when she passed away, it was difficult. There’s no question about it.”
As for when Spencer will rejoin the team, Gundy said that he wouldn't give Spencer any timetable.
“I told (Glenn) he could come back whenever he wanted,” Gundy said. “He could come back in three days, five days or two weeks. What he’s going to have to go through with the next week or so with his family and his boys...he needs to be with them and he’s free to stay and do whatever he wants to do.
“There’s not a harder worker and a guy that wants to be here more, so whenever he’s ready to be a part of our team, he’ll be back.”
Angela Spencer received a heart transplant in February 2010.
