Former Oklahoma and Oklahoma State announcer and sports director at KFOR in Oklahoma City Bob Barry Sr. was found dead in his Norman, Oklahoma home on Sunday.
Barry called games for the Oklahoma Sooners from 1962 to 1971, and then again from 1991 until this past spring. In between those stints with the Sooners he also called games for Oklahoma State and Tulsa basketball.
"Bob Barry represented the best of the Sooner spirit," said Oklahoma president David L. Boren in a statement. "With his contagious enthusiasm, he was one of the best sports broadcast journalists in the entire nation. He was loved by Oklahomans all across our entire state and will be missed by all of us."
“We send our condolences to Bob’s family and thank them for sharing him with us for so many years," said Bob Stoops in a separate statement. "I know this is a difficult time for them, but hope they can find comfort in a life well-lived and the love of countless fans all over the country.”
Barry was 80 years old, and the cause of his death is yet to be determined.
