PODCAST: Previewing Sugar Bowl & Orange Bowl

Posted by Chip Patterson

The CBS Sports College Football Podcast begins to wind down the Bowl Preview Series with a close look at the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 3 and Orange Bowl on Jan. 4. The ACC is sending two teams to BCS bowls for the first time in conference history, and hope Virginia Tech and Clemson can improve the league's 1-4 record in the last five BCS appearances.

Brady Hoke's impressive first year at the helm takes the Wolverines to New Orleans, and Denard Robinson will look to find the end zone against a Hokies defense that has allowed just 17.2 points per game. ACC and Big East fans are expecting fireworks in South Beach with the high-powered offenses of West Virginia and Clemson on the field, but tune in to hear what Adam Aizer and J. Darin Darst think will be the difference-maker in the first BCS head coaching experience for both Dana Holgorsen and Dabo Swinney.

PODCAST: Wrapping up the ACC and Big East

Posted by Chip Patterson

It must be the holiday season, because Adam Aizer and I are in the giving sprit and delivering two conference wrap-up podcasts for the price of one. In this edition of the CBSSports.com College Football Podcast, Adam and I put a bow on the regular season in the ACC and the Big East and break down the best and worst of both conferences.

Pleasant surprises, biggest disappointments, conference awards and the best games of the season. What worked well for Mike London in his second year at Virginia? What didn't work well for Todd Graham at Pittsburgh and Randy Edsall at Maryland? We run down each team in the ACC and Big East and tell you what worked and what didn't in 2011.

PODCAST: Coach of the Year, Week 13 upset alerts

Posted by Chip Patterson

As the season winds down, some of the most popular topics of discussion in college football revolve around head coaches. In this edition of the CBSSports.com College Football Podcast, I sit down with Adam Aizer to preview the holiday weekend ahead and talk about the best of the best when it comes to head coaches in 2011. Is Bill Snyder the frontrunner for his revival in Manhattan? Or do coaches like Les Miles and Lane Kiffin deserve extra consideration for all they have overcome this season.

We also discuss the status of the North Carolina job, currently being held by interim head coach Everett Withers. The school recently made the official posting of the job position, and Adam and I run down some of the popular names associated with the opening. We also take some listener questions, tackling Utah's first season in the Pac-12 and why people hate on the SEC.

PODCAST: Talking BCS Projections with Jerry Palm

Posted by Chip Patterson

It was the first time since 2001 three of the top five teams in the BCS standings lost in the same weekend. With the latest shakeup in the BCS leaving three SEC West teams in the top spots, what kind of scenarios are we looking at coming down the stretch of the regular season?

CBSSports.com BCS Expert Jerry Palm joins Adam Aizer and J. Darin Darst to recap the crazy weekend that was and look at some of the BCS bowl possibilities based on the latest results. Palm breaks down the different scenarios for the National Championship game, and weighs in on Michigan's shot at making a BCS bowl game. The gang also recaps an upset-friendly weekend in the Big 12, and wonders who will emerge on top in the Pac-12 South. Reset your bowl game scenarios with a Week 12 recap on this edition of the CBSSports.com College Football Podcast.

PODCAST: Week Nine Review

Posted by Chip Patterson

The list of undefeated teams continues to shrink as conference play delivers another weekend of upsets and memorable finishes. Adam Aizer and J. Darin Darst run down the biggest stories from the week that was in the Week Nine Review.

It was a wild weekend in the Big 12, with Oklahoma State putting up video game numbers (again) and Missouri pulling off a road upset in overtime. Speaking of overtime, Andrew Luck needed three of them to lead the Cardinal to victory against USC in the Coliseum. Adam and Darin discuss what we can take away from watching how Stanford responded to the challenge from the Trojans. They also break down some of the more surprising one loss teams in college football - as in, how have these teams not lost a second game. Tune in to hear if your favorite team made the list. Catch up on all the action you missed in this edition of the CBSSports.com College Football Podcast.

PODCAST: Week Nine Preview

Posted by Chip Patterson

Last weekend provided some clarity in the national title picture, with two more unbeaten teams falling late Saturday evening. Now Week Nine features several road teams favored to win, which means there is always a chance for an upset - particularly in conference play. Stanford's new status as title contender will be challenged immediately with a trip to face USC in the Coliseum, Clemson also goes on the road to take on a reeling Georgia Tech squad looking to bounce back, and Kansas State will get a visit from the one-loss Oklahoma Sooners.

Adam Aizer and J. Darin Darst also preview the Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, and make some points about the Georgia defense you might not have considered. West Virginia also looks to bounce back from their first conference loss in a trip to face Rutgers, and Michigan returns to the field after a bye week to take on Purdue. Preview all of these games and more in this edition of the CBSSports.com College Football Podcast.

PODCAST: ACC season preview

Posted by Chip Patterson

As part of our ACC Preview, Adam Aizer, J. Darin Darst, and I sat down to take a look at the season ahead in the league. The ACC is a league with a lot of individual talent, but few teams that really stand out on the national level. We discuss the possible shift of power from the Coastal Division to the Atlantic Division, as well as the chances of Florida State reclaiming the conference. I throw an obnoxious amount of support behind Miami as a sleeper, and we run through Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and make our pick for the ACC Championship Game.
